On her shoulders and thighs above the red lines and only on the legs. Her midsection has no such armor aside from the plates on her back. Basically, where the legs meet the body is where they end. And yes, they are gold. What I mean by interlocking is that they are like honeycomb. I haven't really thought about the size of each scale that's another reason I would like to see the sketch before coloring.
