Yeah and people like this just nit picking the head,Β  being a dick.
www.denofangels.com/forums/sho… Most of them are due to camera angles. I admit some are my sculpting and casting flaw though.

I will think about Ed Furlong but I am guessing you will be the only one who would buy? ^_^

paranoidiomatic In reply to Switchum [2014-05-16 14:44:28 +0000 UTC]

ahaha wow that one person who complains about the symmetry?? please.. XDΒ
yeah but the problem with most doll owners is, that they a) got into the hobby via manga and anime and therefore maybe find the sight of your dolls interesting but wouldn't buy such a real looking doll and b) many MANY of them are unemployed (which i personally don't understand) and don't have money, even if they really wanted one of your dolls..
also i guess a big problem is, since it's all actors you sculpt, you of course need to hit some nerve. Except maybe the Elijah Wood one (which would make a great Frodo XD) none of those actors really are what i personally am looking for.Β
If you wanna hit a more obsessed fanbase of the actors you're sculpting, i'd recommend Benedict Cumberbatch or these Supernatural actors.. over on tumblr people are insanely obsessed by them, it's almost creepy. or try someone who's more in the focus of media like Johnny Depp or so?

aaaand yes, chances are that i'd be the only one to buy him, but i'd really want thatttt XD

According to ma partner the person is pretty disturbed.Β  My partner went to the person's Flickr site or something...

Thanks for the pep talk. I needed it.Β  As for the actors I sculpt, I gotta be able to have fun sculpting it. I was not into sculpting Cillian Murphy, but told he is in high demand so I did it with pain. I guess it is not anymore....The face of Benedict Cumberbatch would not do it for me, not to mention he has been done by a few doll makers already. www.denofangels.com/forums/sho…
Β The same goes to Supernatural, Johnny Depp, and Hiddleston.Β  Natrume has done them all www.etsy.com/listing/173019040… ; And I don't want to step on her toes.

I think we will try to produce Fassbender some point.Β  I did not really find David Tennant head. I might consider doing it. But he has been done many times as a toy,Β  or regular doll forms, though.

Yeah You Furlong freak....^_^

paranoidiomatic In reply to Switchum [2014-05-16 18:45:13 +0000 UTC]

yes of course, i mean i myself also tiptoe around in the more undergroundish fandoms, and it's often so hard to find merchandise and on the other hand, there are so few people who recognise my fanworks, not to mention, that in most cases i have barely anyone to talk about my fandoms.. XD so i understand, you have trouble working on dolls you personally don't like that much and it's frustrating, when people don't appreciate your hard work that much.. but tbh, that's why i like you as an artist and as a friend, cuz you're just doing your own thing, and that's something most people don't.
anyway, i think fassbender might have a bigger fanbase than it seems though, since that recent x-men movie.. unfortunately i'm not the regular dollowner either... like i said most of them love them for their anime-ish look and here i am more into superheroes and stuff.. so i guess i could tell you a lot of actors who i personally would love to see, but yah... i dunno..Β
alsoooo figures and regular dolls are NOT the same as a bjd, let me tell you that! XD as a person who owns severel statues, actionfigures AND bjds: it is NOT the same XDΒ

Yeah thanks. I think I am more ticked off at the fact that the chick in TX just put that critique( not to mention it wasΒ  after we spent money on molding and casting) on our discussion thread openly rather than PMing us. There is not other way to think that she was doing it to hurt our sales.

Hey I just want to express that I value our friendship. You are a pretty cool person.

Β I sure hope fassbender would do better. But I went back to rework on the head more again so it will be for a while to get covered with silicon. The good part is that mold maker we use now is local and can have super fast turn around.

Β Well, I might really consider sculpting David Tennant next then.

paranoidiomatic In reply to Switchum [2014-05-17 11:43:18 +0000 UTC]

she probably did! i thought so myself, because really, why would you critique on stuff like that?? i mean some of her complains might be reasonable, but most of it was just looking for mistakes where there are none. even under her grit a lot of stuff, she thought was uneven and out of symmetry still looked rather perfect to me? and also, i think she didn't quite get, that you aimed to sculpt an actual person, which are -big surprise- not perfectly symmetrical.Β

ffff thanks u//v//u (i know, that i'm cool, just acting all shy and bashful ;D)

oh that's good news! it's always better, when you have everything in one place.. i guess that'll make it a lot cheaper for you as well? btw, how much are your heads even? owo

that's good new too uvu i might get one then ;DΒ
oh btw! i'm not sure how it is with most other doll-owners, but i personally have a favour for smiling dolls, maybe a little mischievous. or at least not utterly serious faces. i think the trend goes towards happier dolls lately.. i'm not so sure, but for years all i have seen was those long-haired gay vampire type of dolls, but lately i see more and more sassy and happy looking dolls. i dunno how well that would go with the guys you're sculpting, but maybe it's a thing to consider for the future? (psssst --Tennant-- psssst)

Switchum In reply to paranoidiomatic [2014-05-17 13:50:00 +0000 UTC]

Yeah I hope other intelligent memebers like yourself at the forum can see her intention right away. I admit that it is not symmetric; I am not a machine and I see some parts that I wished I fixed or treated different way after it is molded. It is always like that for anything I have made.

Yeah you are a pretty cool person. Don't change.

Yeah the Mikkel head we had to price it at $180 to recover the cost of shipping it to South Korea and getting mold there. They are pretty expensive soΒ  even though we sold about 8 of them, my sculpting fee is pretty much under the minimum wage if I divide by the hours I put into... For Murph we priced it $155 and we can recover molding fee if we sell 3 of them. We can even lower more if there were more sales. But we sold none so far as you know....

Β Facial expression is something we thought about. For custom-ability, we tend not to put smile or grin, but I am leaning to put actor's signiture facial expression. Such as Elijah's frown, or David Tennant's raise eye brow or something. That helps likeness..

I got a lotΒ  on my plate right now so it will be a while till I get to sculpt Tennant, but if I ever do, I will make sure to get you discount.

paranoidiomatic In reply to Switchum [2014-05-17 19:11:56 +0000 UTC]

well i'm rather sure ANY artist in this world sees lots and lots of flaws in his own work after its long done.. you shouldn't worry too much, people like that one user are just being assholes, probably jealous of your talent.Β

oh but that's incredibly low when you look at the detail of your heads O: in that case, i'm definitely gonna buy that tennant (or whatever actor on my gusta-list, you might make first XD)Β
but hey, 8 sold heads aren't bad considering you guys are all new and stuff.. but mikkelsen also is super popular since that hannibal show XD people are incredibly fond of tv-series lately XD i think robert downey junior might sell well too (also i would consider getting one if you made one hohoho) i dunno just throwing in random ideas.. i guess people like jeremy renner a lot too.. he's not exactly my favourite, but well..

facial expression is always a good thing, just don't overdo it. there are some dolls on the market with very extreme facial expressions (like tongues sticking out, or wide laughter), that look stunning at first sight, still great at second sight, but seriously those dolls very soon reach their limit of convertibility (not sure if that's the right word to use, but you get the idea) which is why i actually wouldn't buy a doll like that.. but small facial expresions, like the raised eyebrows you mentioned, or a little smile or whatever are really refreshing among all the serious faces on the market.

you don't really have to give me discount, but i'll gladly acept it! XD

Yeah Frank Frazetta was notorious about that. He painted over already famous fantasy paintings of his multiple times.

Anyway, There are some stuff that she pointed out, which I would like to fix as they were casting problems. I will try to mark this up as a learning process or blessing in disguise.Β  Thanks for the compliment and encouragement as always, You are such a sweetie.

Β Speaking of RDJ, there was a group order of the head sculpt at market place of DoA, which seemed to be going sour due to the original sculptor/company disappearing on them, so my partner tried to talk them into commission us instead. But then the whole group order people wanted too much of discount from us while getting enough people to commit to the order so whole thing died.Β  But there is a decent face up of RDJ head though. www.denofangels.com/forums/sho… .

Yeah I am on the same page with you about the facial expressions.

I will give you discount whether you like it or not.Β  You are the one really helped me getting into this doll thing. You have been very helpful and kind to all of my stupid questions regarding BJ dolls. It is not an exaggeration that If you were not there for me, there would not have been Namonaki Workshop.
