Overall, I liked it. I would have liked to have learned more about Sombra, but even so, I do like that they made him something of a shapeless horror. I know many people, like Cereal Velocity over on EQD said they didn't like Sombra's design, because his vague shadowy form didn't give us anything tangible or understandable... But personally, I think that was brilliant. There is nothing more terrifying than that which we cannot comprehend.

Also, I have a hunch that we haven't seen the last of Sombra. I couldn't help but notice that when he was destroyed by the Heart Crystal, his horn remained intact. Also, there were several scenes that seemed to be foreshadowing. Luna was somewhat... distant, almost hostile, when Twilight met with Celestia. And at the end of part 2, we see her holding an unknown book. Those scenes weren't put there for nothing...

So although we didn't learn much about Sombra, I sort of think it was deliberate. It really seems to me like this was only the beginning of something bigger... Luna knows something, and we haven't heard the last of Sombra. I'm sure of it. I just wonder if this will somehow tie into Discord's comeback.

Anyway, the writers know they now have a solid, committed fanbase. I think they might now feel more free to write cohesive, overarching stories that span long periods of time, because they know we'll stick around long enough to see where they're going with it.

I actually liked Sombra as well, although I can understand where people are coming from. Also, there's a theory that Sombra survuved and will be giving assistance to a certain Great and Powerful unicorn set to reappear in a few weeks. It's just a fan theory, but it would explain a few things that are gonna happen in Episode 5. Discord is apparently set to return (thanks for the spoiler, John de Lancie), so maybe Chrysalis and/or Sombra have a hoof in that. *hoping to see a villain alliance against the Mane 6*

I also found Luna's coldness bizarre. I mean, the only reason she can show her face in public is because of Twilight, and all the thanks Twilight gets is "Stay indoors, Twilight Sparkle! You've been warned..." in the S2 finale and a cold scowl when she did nothing wrong in the S3 premier. Where's the respect? I mean, Twilight's her niece for crying out loud. =_= Well, to be fair, Luna was worried that Twilight wouldn't be able to stop Sombra, so I'm guessing the scowl was a "You'd better not screw this up." kinda glare. Celestia said that if Twilight succeeded then they'd know she was close to being ready for something... but for what? I'm guessing Luna's book has something to do with it.

Also, do you think it's a coincidence that Sombra was sealed and Luna turned into Nightmare Moon in the same year? I don't.

Yeah I noticed that too. I believe I remember Lauren once saying that Luna became Nightmare Moon when she was corrupted by some dark power... At first I thought that dark power might have been Discord, but now I'm wondering if it wasn't Sombra. Or perhaps Discord was ultimately responsible for both of them..?
