Where do i get the torrent for Joule ?
For some problem, i cant download the iso through Firefox, it gets stalled after sometime.
Also, Does the ISo has all the DE's in it, and can I choose 1 to install or will it by default install all the DE's ?
Sorry to bother you, but want to give PCBSD a try, but i seem to be lost in its midst !

PCBSD / freeBSD torrents are found here => gotbsd.net/
but i think Joule torrent is not yet loaded [its understandable as Joule released on Jan30 i think]
During Install, ypu can customize your DE of choice. If you choose none, Fluxbox is installed by default.
You have hardware compat test too so you know if every thing works [graphic card / sound etc]
IFeel free to ask champ.... i started to use pcbsd since 9.0 and i have noticed a sea of change during the past 2 years...

Thanks a ton for your inputs. Yesterday, i became a PCBSD forum member and posted this thread : forums.pcbsd.org/showthread.ph…
I hav got some replies and am currently downloading the iso from piratebay, the link I found in another PCBSD forum thread.
Even if I cant get my audio applications runnings, I will install PCBSD in one of my partitions, replace Manjaro most likely, and give it a spin.
Then see how it comes across, I can always use it as my non-audio primary desktop
After 3+ years of Debian & Ubuntu, I want some variety

You're welcome. I'm happy to hear that someone is actually using it. Are you using a linux distribution and if so, which one?

i use pc-bsd, arch...
love them both [offlate upgraded to pcbsd rolling release... just like arch]

On-The-Fly In reply to AarViCee [2013-05-04 16:05:01 +0000 UTC]
I'm thinking of going for arch too due to the rolling release model. Currently I'm still stuck with a minimal Ubuntu installation. I'm only partly happy with that situation
How's software variety on BSD in general? And why PC-BSD? I must say, I don't have much knowledge in the BSD section.

i had a longing to venture into the world of BSDs... pcbsd seemed to be the best choice when you are unaware of the installation process and the gui installer walks you thru pretty easy...
BSD is as secure as ever and pcbsd comes with a linux layer pre installed for certain apps [flash player for example]
almost all softwares are readily available on the appcafe [a program that comes with default, aka software installer]
appcafe installs programs without disturbing the base system so program downloads are a bit heavier than direct installs when done thru appcafe. reason ? => programs are built with all dependancies so no issues related to the base system]
with the advent of the rolling release system, the pkgng will be integrated with the system-software manager, appcafe and the pkg app [that can be run from CLI]
i am also new to the world of BSD but its rock solid, i can say that... especially with the 64 bit ZFS...
another reason for me entering BSD is the ability to create freebsd jails and install apps on the jail to test run [without affecting the base system, less consuming on the resource as it is not like vbox or vmware installed os]
we can execute the programs installed in jail directly from the base and you will not notice any difference... i used to try that out a lot for learning sake...
though i am new, i can say that we can install full fledged web servers inside a jail and access to the server can be given without affecting your base system... so much for now... my... our learning curve will never end

wow, thank you very much for that extensive result. That really sounds like a lot of intersting stuff to discover. I'm more of a CLI-guy though. But I might have a look at pcBSD in a virtual machine some time.
Do you have any experience with full disk encryption on BSD? One of the reasons I want to switch to Arch is so that I can set up my partitions correctly with LUKS the way I like it.
It does not happen often to me, but can you play the games from Linux like those from the humble bundle? Say: how's graphics driver support?
Oh boy, I feel really bad for asking you so many questions

AarViCee In reply to On-The-Fly [2013-05-05 10:46:26 +0000 UTC]
arch does it all...
in bsd, first you have to check for drivers... nvidia has inbuilt support for freeBSD though...
how about having a look at the forums... they are a lot friendly and almost what you ask for may be available in the threads...
no issues for the questions champ... i think if graphic driver is there for your hardware, then BSD will ba an option you will like...
feel free to ask champ within my user experience and knowledge... i ll do my bit for you
