Thank you for the happy birthday wishes. Sixty nine years old, I never thought i'd get this old. I just finished reading "the graveyard book" (graphic novel) by Neil Gaiman. The illustrations made me think of you and i wondered if one day you would illustrate such a novel. I for one would love to see it. I'd buy the first copy. I love graphic novels and i love your style. Hope your having a great year.

Hello!!! I have been away on holiday; I have spent very little time on the internet trying to detox myself from it... no success!!! I still think that internet is the best invention of the last century!!!Β
"The graveyard book" is a very appealing title!!! I will put it in the list of the books to read . At the moment I am a bit more in the archeoastronomy reading...I find very fascinating how ancient people linked the real observation of the sky and planets to their life, beliefs and architecture... In particular I find interesting that there are many similarities among cultures located in places so far from each other, like a sort of very ancient common memory. Most of these ancient people for example have legends related to a cathastrophic flood (probably a memory of the end of the last ice age). It would be wonderful to visit the inca e maya cities, but at the moment the trip is too expensive for me...so I will content myself with the megalithic monuments in Europe

Thanks for the comment! And really cool gallery, you have my watch

I enter your page and I see that you visited barcelona some months ago, where I live. I am glad you liked it, it's a beautiful city (Actually, it's also where the protagonists of our webcomic live too xD)

Anyway, keep up the good work

you...lucky girl living in Barcelona!!! You have no idea how many times I was on the verge of stumbling while I was in Barcelona...because I was looking in awe at the buildings...and forgetting to pay attention to the road! I hope to come back there for another weekend, but in the meantime
I am going to read your comic with pleasure!!!

Haha the funny thing is that I don't go out often because I'm drawing all day so I am not able to enjoy the city that much xD But yeah, I lived in another city near Barcelona before, and it was much uglier, so I can appreciate its beauty Β

I don't know what part of Italy are you from, but I was lucky enough to visit your country for some days and I found it gorgeous. And the food was amazing xDΒ

Thanks a lot for the watch!

AlessandraImperio In reply to AtanaSumi [2016-06-15 08:42:55 +0000 UTC]

I know the problem very well...I live in Milan but I spend all day drawing like you, so that I know little of this city (to get to know it a bit more I have bought a city guide for children...)!!! I come from the south however...from a little town next to the sea in Calabria (the tip of the boot)!!!

AtanaSumi In reply to AlessandraImperio [2016-06-15 12:57:52 +0000 UTC]

Haha yeah. I have never been there, sadly...I visited some cities from the north years ago with my family. I just remember thinking that it was the most beautiful place I had ever visited outside Spain (I have not traveled that much anyway xD). I specially remember how spacious everything seemed to be. Barcelona is beautiful, but it's a little bit cramped xD

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

AlessandraImperio In reply to AtanaSumi [2016-06-16 03:49:27 +0000 UTC]

I can't believe it!!! I had the same feeling about that little spain I visited!!! I begin to think that it might be a kind of "holiday syndrome"!!! But I am happy that you had a good experience in Italy!!!Β

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

AtanaSumi In reply to AlessandraImperio [2016-06-17 12:39:32 +0000 UTC]

Haha yeah maybe it's some kind of syndrome xD Yeah, I really loved it, I want to return some day for sure. Although the food was so delicious that it's dangerous xDΒ

If you visit some more of Spain one day, I recommend you to go to Galicia, if you have not been there. It's very different from Catalunya but It's really gorgeous, specially if you like nature. Everything has some kind of a mystical vibe.

I would actually appreciate that :3
Do you useΒ  a lot of photo reference and subsequently 'build' off of it? Also, what tools do you typically use when constructing one of your magnificent settings?

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

AlessandraImperio In reply to TheBOOCH [2016-06-09 05:01:53 +0000 UTC]

Yes I use photo references a lot. Not only references of real places. I often build for "real" a mini-setting with boxes and objects of different kind, just to have the perception of the volumes and to study and choose the point of view. Once I think I have found the mood, then I proceed to fix the details with the drawing. I work in this way especially with the backgrounds involving architecture. In the past I also used clay...but the temptation to add details in the real model was slowing the process, so now I prefer to use simpler shapes in paper and cardboards. Recently I have become much more "technological", so I have begun to use also digital softwares such as after effects to recreate some basic 3d structures, which I can lately explore with the inbuilt camera of the program itself. I know there is some google tool for 3d drawings which I'd like to try but I haven't yet. Β The main advantage of the softwares is that...at the end of the day I do not have to clean half of the house of all sorts of junks!! Another strategy I use is to make sketches with watercolor (which is not my tool at all), so that they are somehow a simplified version of anything I see (people, places, situations) and then forget them for a while. I come back to them later...and somehow I see something, maybe just a detail, which I like and I start building from that. Given that the original piece is not of my liking, I feel free to change and add as I prefer. At least for me, the main problem with photographic references Β is that I tend to copy everything but I have learned that what works in a photo does not always work in a drawing. The brain has its own way to correct and add things which are missing in photos and drawings. We draw over and over with our brain...even when we abandon an art piece. Β

TheBOOCH In reply to AlessandraImperio [2016-06-11 04:46:03 +0000 UTC]

Awesome, thank you for the tips! You are a consummate professional Β The art program I'm using has some limited tools but I'm learning to use them...haha it's a slow process :/
I am totally down with physical reference though, I used toΒ make clay models of certain faces to look at lighting and shadows (I need to start doing that again) which really helps. Again, thanks for showing your process on your profile it's really helpful to see howΒ you build your designs
