Valkyrja-Skuld In reply to ??? [2014-12-03 21:32:10 +0000 UTC]
Funny...I also have this bittersweet feeling. When I'm gone my children will remember me, then my grandchildren (I hope). And after that...I'll be just dust in the wind. That's one of the reasons I'm attracted to History, and the immortal names of the people who made it and will have their names remembered forever.

Yeah, my grandchildren (if I will have any) will probably have memories with me, if I'm lucky enough to survive till they are born But their children will surely be born after my death, so we won't have any common memories and I think that shared experience is what makes the link that truly counts between people. Thus I will be just a ghost to them, not important enough to remember. And I will slowly fade away. :/Β

how did you learn to blacksmith/bladesmith? now a days at least where i live its hard to find a bladesmith or blacksmith for that matter.

hellize In reply to DesBubbles [2014-08-20 05:59:56 +0000 UTC]
I found an old blacksmith it a small nearby village, who kindly showed me a thing or two about shaping metal, mostly toolmaking, but unfortunately nothing about bladesmithing. He mostly done horseshoeing and other stuff needed by local farmers.
Bladesmithing I learned only from the net and books.
It was kind of funny, as my master knew absolutely nothing about damascus, so at the end he learned a bit from me too

Your work is amazing! As an amateur blacksmith i find your work inspiring. Not that it matters but i noticed you haven't really made any swords. Is this just because it would take a hectic amount of work? p.s please keep making stuff!

Glad you like my stuff!
I did made a few gladiuses, falchions and 1-2 yatagan blades. Here you can see some of them:
www.mooseknives.ro
But far less than knives.
You know, swords are really hard to make, compared to knives, and unfortunately their asking price is higher as well, because of this. And so, most people who would like to have simply can't afford it Thus I don't have reason to make them. That's the sad truth.

how long have you been making knives?
π: 0 β©: 1
hellize In reply to Thatguy-Ovurthurrson [2014-01-10 07:23:47 +0000 UTC]
Hmm.. never really thought about that About 8-9 years. But in the first years I made quite simple stuff. Only in the last 2-3 years I found enough time to experiment Β with more complicated technics, like damascus.

Thatguy-Ovurthurrson In reply to hellize [2014-01-14 13:09:12 +0000 UTC]
hmm. i fear it will take a lot longer with me. there are no blacksmiths, let alone bladesmiths within a reasonable distance.
