I can try to explain. Just know that I've only seen so little. I watched the first season when it started then stopped (like we were talking about before how I switch shows for others after a while) and now when I say that I'm watching this show again; I skipped to season four because I want to see Castiel (nickname Cas).

Supernatural is really about these two brothers, the elderest Dean and his younger brother Sam. In the beginning of season one their whole goal is to avenge their mother's horrorific death. She was killed by some 'Yellow Eye'd Demon'. As you can imagine, there are mini plots without the entire show. They get side tracked, there's hundreds of more demons and creatures and mistories that they are forced to solve before they can continue on their search.

And since I skipped seasons 2&3, I can't tell you anything that happens then. Well, I can tell you that Dean is killed at the end of season three by this mega powerful she-demon and his soul was dragged to hell, where he fought in pudatory for one solid year. And then he was suddenly yanked back into his body on earth, where upon his brother and friend/dad-like figure had buried him. (Don't worry, he pulled himself from 'rest' *pun*).

This season focuses on Sam and Dean continuing to hunt demons, the introduction of a mysterious angel, Castiel, as well as Sam's new powers, and Dean's return from Hell and his memory of his time spent there. This season also touches on the brothers' continuing hunt for Lilith (the she-demon), who is trying to release Lucifer on the world.

The first epsiode of season four was all about Dean finding his friend Bobby, Bobby not believing that Dean is alive again because he and Sam buried Dean a year ago, and tries to kill Dean, then Dean proves himself. Oh, I should probably mention that Dean's body, before he was dragged to Hell, had become a Hell hounds chew toy and that his earthly body had been torn to shreds. Another reason why Bobby hadn't believed it was him. (But now his body is back to normal, heathly and whole again). After Dean proves he's back, Bobby and him go in search for Sam, whose been acting up and hiding out. They find each other, Sam (just like Bobby did) doesn't believe Dean's really him, and as he goes to bro-hug him, Sam whips out a knife and tries to shove it in Dean's rib cage. Of course, Dean step sides and Bobby pushes him away and explains the situation before things get ugly. Sam apologizes, Dean accepts, they make up, they barely retain their happy tears, and now it's Dean's turn to explain how it is he's back on earth, back in his body. Dean as no idea how it happened, or what happened in Hell. He forgot everything, besides a slight memory of burning eyes. He meets with a psychic to find out what pulled him from Hell, she sees the figures true form, it's too much, and her eyes shrivel up and she's permentally blind. But, at least now they know that Dean was brought back by an angel (his name is Castiel or Cas). Dean and Bobby summon him to find out what he wants and why he did it. Cas arrives, tells Dean that God has big plans for him, and thus how season four begins.


Further on in season four, Dean is brought back into the past to the time his parents are dating.(Thanks to Cas). He meets them, undercover (being that they don't know he's their future son), and he also finds out that it was his mother's side of the family that were the Hunters, not his father that they origonally believed(demon, etc. hunters). Here he meets the 'Yellow Eye'd Demon', warns his mother descretly about the day of her death, but then the demon possesses her father, kills her mother, stabs himself/her father, and then breaks her boyfriends/future husband/Dean's father's neck and here the demon makes a deal with her: to save Johns life (that's his name) all she has to do is agree that in 10 years time to allow him in her house. That she's not allowed to bother him, and so he will leave without a fuss, and so he will save John's life. Obviously she agrees (Dean gets there in time to only see the demon leaving his grandfather's body; technology too late) and so the future is in motion and so is his mother's doom. Cas brings them back to the present and Dean demands to know what the whole lesson of that was about, because he doesn't think that he has learned anything new. Then Cas reminds him what the demon had bragged about; his children. This is when Dean/we learn what really happened on the night of his mother's murder: the yellow eye'd demon had bled into Sam's infant mouth, giving him some of his psyche powers, marking his claim and fulfilling a debt. Sam and Dean and everyone else already knew that Sam had psyche powers (some time between season 2 and 3) and at that time Dean had made Sam promise that he wouldn't use them. After Dean's death Sam broke said promise and continued to strenghten them, with the help of a another lesser she-demon that Dean does not approve of.

Castiel. Cas is a angel of God, one of his favorites even, but he is having his doubts. Things aren't going so well in Heaven, things are crumbling down around their ears, and it's become a great challenge to stop Lucifier from getting out of Hell. Castiel is occasionally possessing the body of average joe Jimmy, who has a wife and daughter. In one epsiode we learn that Jimmy does't want to be possessed anymore, but when his family is attacked, he has to give up all rights to his body again (and forever) to Castiel in order to save his family. And so he leaves them. There are other angels in the show, most bad, a few good, but tortured. I can't tell you much about them because I'm not that far in the seasons yet. There's 8 in total.

And from what tumblr and my siblings (who are big supernatural fans) are telling me, Cas dies, Bobby dies, everyone is dying basically. Oh, Dean dies a whole lot, but is brought back, from what I've gathered. But then they learn in season eight that Cas isn't really died (because only an angel and kill a fellow angel) and that Bobby's ghost/spirit is following the boys around trying to help.

That's all I can say, really. I think you'd like it if you gave it a try. I mean, Dean is a huge star trek fan and uses references from the tv series in a casual everyday sorta way. xD And he's funny. Like alot. Sam just whines a whole bunch, but he's cool too. Cas actually grows as a character. In the beginning he was almost like a robot, but then he gets casual and happy and expresses feelings that he's never had before and almost learns how to be normal.

Now I want to watch Supernatural. Good thing I've got Netflix. Good luck trying to read all that. Feel free to ask if you're confused. Just know that I might not have the answers. XD
