Hey, I was in Scranton the other day, and heard that some of the actors of the Office show up for the different local parades and stuff there. And I thought of you...someday we have to go there together!

First, we'll go to Scranton and then India and then Ireland and then... Maybe Ireland before India. My Hindi speaking skills need to be expertly honed.
I have a question. Have you ever heard of the Sevenwaters series? I think you remember well how I used to not be that big on fantasy, but this lady has seriously converted me. The entire series is about Ireland in the tenth century and has themes of Irish mythology. If you are looking for historical scholarship in fiction rather than entertainment, however, you might reconsider. I think she does a bloody well job of writing historical fiction without it being bogged down by the time frame, but I have heard others complain.

Ireland before India definitely! I want to visit the Emerald Isle before being thrown into abject poverty. I know you are big on Bollywood but I have to warn you India looks a lot more like Slumdog Millionaire... I am sure your Hindi is better then mine. All i can remember is the word for water and how to say "my name is radha." Ah well...someday!
No I have not heard of the sevenwaters, but I will look it up, it sounds really cool. My mom was reading a lot of Irish history a few years ago, mostly about early Christiany overtaking the old Celtic mythology. i started to get into it, but I never really liked reading non fiction. What's the first book in the series?

I am expecting poverty in India. I mean, look at American movies. Not everyone is a sleek and sexy spy who lives in a mansion, even though half of us might rather enjoy it! I think Ireland would be best for a relaxing vacation, anyway, because there is nothing fun about poverty.
The first book in the Sevenwaters trilogy is called Daughter of the Forest. I just finished the second, Son of the Shadows. The third is Child of the Prophecy. She is also doing stand-alone novels, such as Heir to Sevenwaters, but those should be read after the series so you know what has happened. Don't read any reviews beforehand, either, because you never quite know what's going to happen with her books. That's part of the fun. She does have a backdrop of the old Celtic faith with the early growth of Christianity. What I like about it is that she doesn't bash either religion. She shows an understanding for both. Since she is writing fiction, she does take liberties to enhance storytelling. I also love it because the main character of the first two books are apt with the healing properties of herbs. Nature and animals play a big part in her settings, and it's inspired me to learn more about tree and plant lore and the healing properties of herbs.
