Hold on. Before you do anything with your comics, let me get something out first.

I don't hate this series, I just find it frustrating due to the head writer. While I do find that Flynn does come up with interesting ideas and stories that fit the tone of franchise better than his predecessors. To me, I find him to be a weak writer as he doesn't seem to be able to do the fundamentals of story telling.

He tends to rely on plot contrivance to start and continue any story, his endings are either deus-ex-machinas or completely end without a satisfying pay-off, his leads are completely underdeveloped or not established and will bring in new characters and develop them before writing his mains. To top it off, there doesn't seem a point to this series. Like what is this series aiming to do either on a regular basis or on a arc by arc basis? There aren't any themes that the series tries to expand on, the mains and the story are usually written to be whatever the plot needs and their isnt that much of a spectacle or events that make this series stand out.

In short, I'm not hating on this series nor am I trying to make you hate it. I just want to call these problems out so they can be fixed, hopefully by Flynn just trying to be a better writer.

Well maybe not put that stuff where it's ammunition for people who have now hated this series.

Also I wanted to say there is a connection between those backstories and how in some issues affect these characters in the now.

For sally; she afraid of loss and failure and wants to help everyone. She is afraid of sacrificing her friends for the sake of the mission. She has a lot of pressure on her to keep up the facade that she's always right and is all knowing which if you have a leader who says I don't know that's enough to kill them.

Nicole though she doesn't have a personality however, she is logical in her thinking as a machine but as hologram she see's the world more than zeros and ones. She wants to understand the world around her as her friends see it.

And in spark of life there is a theme to it. It's how characters deal with grief from their past. The is a contrast with Ellidy and sally. Ellidy isolates himself. Sally on the otherhand opens herself up.

As for antoine and bunnie I'll tell you more if you take note of what I've said so far.

My problem isnt that the stories don't connect, if anything it is because they connect too well. While both Bunnie and Antoine's backstories address their main character concept, their limbs and cowardice respectively, both of these concepts are resolved in those issues. Now this wouldn't be a problem, except for the fact that those were the only things that were noteworthy about them. Neither one of them have any other established character traits or conflicts to deal with and they have very little to do or add otherwise.

For Sally, I'm going to ignore the fact that most of the time I have seen stories about characters keeping their emotions and problems to themselves, it is usually either getting the character to stop doing that or showing the negative consequences of doing that and just consider this to be Sally character conflict. So she doesn't want to sacrifice her friends in missions, ok. How is this mindset going to be challenged in anyway in the future? This can only avoid making her look put upon if she is challenged on this more than once.

However, Sally just seems to not have a defined character. Like she is shown to be easily stressed but only because of her "reactions" in the champions arc. Which also comes in conflict with her being able to control her in other situations.
I know alot of people like that she isnt an easily recognized archetype, but unless that character is constantly being built on, she just comes across as a character with no personality.

For Nicole, I do think the idea of her wanting to know more about the world outside of being a handheld could be a great idea, but she should have some form of a personality in general. Unless all of her storylines are about her dealing with learning about the world, that doesn't leave her much to do.

While I will admit that dealing with grief is an interesting concept, 1) how does that tie in with the rest of the story? 2) Did that need to be established about Sally? If so, what does that factor into about her? 3) Did this need to be done now while the story is still building itself?

The reason I keep harping on character conflicts is because in modern story telling this is the best way to establish what characters want, who they are, and why we should care about them. But these conflicts should feed back into the main goal for the series and not just for filler

Lavi, look I'm not an expert story writer or an English major.(in fact I'm a history major). There's no point in me arguing anymore and plus there is one more conflict that is shared with both antoine and bunnie. In the recent origins issue, there is a mention of Antoine's parents dying in battle and as far as I know he and bunnie are the only family within blood and legal relatives they both have in this continuity.

if you read in Antoine's backstory, he mentions that his dad had high expectations for him, which with his dad dead, he still has his father's shoes he has to fill.

Also, there was a story in 264 where bunnie worried of him nearly getting killed.

Hey dont let your major be a hindrance to your interests. (Im a computer engineering major). I just watch and read a lot about story telling.

Now, I'm only going to count the new world stuff because that is what is going to have an impact of their story arcs.

OK so they have family. How does that affect Bunnie, Antoine or Sally's characters in any way? Not how it could potentially affect them. I mean how does it affect them in the story? Same thing for Antoine's goal to be his father?

What has Antoine done to be more like his father? Yes, he is also a swordman, but is shown to be training or constantly comparing himself to his father? Not from the issues he has been in. Yes there have only been 20 issues, and it would seem weird for this to be his characterization, but that is my problem. Outside of being "Nobel", there isn't much to his character outside of that. Yeah, he is hating on Sonic for some reason, but that honestly just contrasts with his noble persona. On top of that, how is being noble shown, used or challenged in any way outside of doing what the plot requires.

Again, Honey, Breezie and Dr. Ellidy have had more established about them than most of the cast and there is no excuse for it. These guys didn't need to be in a story this soon. The first few arcs should have just been about the main cast. Especially since this cast is so frigging huge.

I wish that were the case but I think the reason they haven't gotten spotlight out of those twenty+ issues is because sally and the rest of the FFs aren't that popular or recognizable as the game cast (excluding sally in some cases). The problem is I don't think ian doesn't care about these characters but it's more of the fans and Sega not caring about them. Ever since the reboot began we as fans are either too stary eyed at at the more game centric verse and what's new rather than what's there. Or like some including many who have commented on your analysis decide to just throw them under the bus and don't give them a chance.

Also, there is great deal of what we don't know what goes on when ian and the rest work on the comics. After, all since this is a licensed comic sega and archie don't care squat of what they want to do just make them rich.

While that might explain why they don't get top billing, they could easily be the supporting character in an arc and still get character moments.
However, this only matters if you dont count the Spark of Life arc, where Tails and Big are the only Sega characters, and are barely in the story. Sally and Nicole are the main players, but the story is more about Dr. Ellidy overcoming his own issues, not about Sally or Nicole growing in anyway.

Really that entire arc really makes me wonder how much SEGA cares about SATAM characters in the forefront. Yes, I could see them saying that the SEGA crew has to be in every issue, but I dont think that means they said that the SATAM characters can never be in a story but still require them to be in the series. Really I think Flynn keeps them around for the SATAM fans, but has no idea about how to write them.

Look, while I dont agree with her blocking you, straight up calling her names and insulting her work because you confuse her with other fans of said work, it is understandable why she would.

well, why don't you ask her why she interacts more with the haters than her actual fans themselves? if she really didn't like my trash-talking she could've blocked me the moment i showed up, but what can i do if she finds my insults way more entertaining than most of the compliments she have been receiving in the past few years? and lastly i don't know why but you seem to understand more of the situation than the peron you're actually trying to defend and i respect you for that atleast.
