Bio
Nik Ainley is a digital illustrator based in the UK. He has been producing personal and commissioned illustrations for a wide array of clients for over ten years.
Self-taught, he first found his love for digital art while studying physics at university. He quickly found his interest in producing graphics on computer outgrowing that of his studies. After completing his degree he moved full time into design and illustration and has been there every since.
Nik is constantly trying to expand his range of abilities and is happiest when learning new software or techniques. He works in both 2D and 3D software to produce his images and especially enjoys the results combining the two can achieve.
Shinybinary.com was first launched in 2004 and has since attracted over five million visitors.
He is represented in the UK by the Central Illustration Agency and sells high quality art prints with ClickforArt.
Nik is tired of writing about himself in the third person now and is going to stop.

hi, was wondering if you had ever looked at copyright laws?
In class today I brought up how people are doing your tuts to make images exactly like yours, & not crediting you, and my teacher said that if it was her work she would go after them and tell them to stop using it. She's a pitbull.

Well it wouldn't really be fair of me to make a tutorial then not allow anyone to actually follow it to make images. As long as they aren't actually stealing my images themselves I don't see anything wrong.

True, and I really appreciate your doing tuts, they make Photoshop seem less of a bloated beast to those just learning the program, like me.
But I was thinking particularly of the person who used an almost exact copy of the artwork you did (from the tut in Digital Arts May 08) to garner an award. He placed the figure in a bottle and changed the coloring a little but still, even the water coming out the sleeves looks the same.. and he didn't appear to credit you as the source at all... My teacher says that's not acceptable according to copyright law.
There were some others in your links too that were rather blatantly cadging your tutorial images and making it seem as if it was their own idea.. This whole area is a sticky wicket I suppose, so what's a designer to do, use low res images and tag/watermark everything?

you're pretty much a master graphic manipulator my friend.. excellent works.. it's great to see refreshing original work still being created. keep it up.
