They can't survive. That's the point. Their rage enables them to survive through the pain long enough to avenge their deaths, but they cannot survive. Otherwise they would just sort of live forever and then they'd be godmodding which they're already almost doing already lol. Lycia (that's the Knight past to whom you are referring) could not have survived, because, even though Valsyris (her Lord) wasn't actually 100% dead, he was close enough to dead that it made no difference. Being a demon, he doesn't have a soul, but his essence was cleaved from his body. In a lesser species, that would have been fatal, but he was just kicked to hell for twenty thousand years or so before he had enough strength to reform. Yes, he is one of the more powerful demons, but that means he had earned more punishment for himself. It all has a kind of system to it, really. But if Lycia's mortal self couldn't survive his separation from his body, it definitely would have had no chance against the suffering he earned for himself. Does that help? :3
