Have my best wishes like every year. Time flies! I've been wondering, are you still based in Ohio?

Thank you! Sorry for the late reply. I haven't been on in quite a while.
I am still in Ohio, but currently living on the opposite end, so a few hundred miles away.

Hm, you haven't been here for half a year. I genuinely hope nothing bad has happened to you. But maybe you'll come around to checking in here again. Anyway, I've been meaning to watch Girl, Interrupted for a while because you listed it as your favorite movie and I finally got around to it. Can you name what it is about it that you like so much?

I've been doing well, just busy with school. I spend the majority of my time working on my research, so all of my hobbies have been pushed to the side. I did post a couple things that I've done in the past months.
As for the movie, I just really related to the characters in it at the time. Not necessarily in all of their traits, but in the sense of how women and their mental health are viewed. I don't know if I would say it's my favorite movie, as I have many, but it was a good place holder in the bio.

Ah, what a lucky coincidence you're checking in now. I do hope you'll find some more spare time. I myself have a bit more of it for a little while, so feel free to recommend me your other favorite movies... B)

Especially the first three lines of the chorus reminded me of you.
Sirrah - Rhea
To understand the stream of words
That in one moment subside into silence
Only to be reborn at the least expected time
But having lost the truth and original meaning
If I could fly
Oh, if I could fly
But I'm not able even to rise or tell colours
Here comes the time
Can't hear the applause
Appreciation
Here comes the time to stop
A thread ties strong the fibres of my hatred
Tightening the loop that hangs around my neck
The walls go sparking, start tearing off my skin
This miserable coat that won't let me run away
I scrape myself
Searching for a way to escape
Knowing it is bound to fail
Can see some lonely drops
Congealing on the handrail
Even the longest day
Must sometime come to an end
To catch up with at least one thought
That dies, dissolves in twinkling of an eye
Among faded pages that are dampened with sweat
In remote comes of non-existence frenzy
Presenting my left hand
The right one, who cares
It left me

That was definitely one of the most strange songs I've listened to, not to say that is a bad thing. I can't really say that I see myself in any of the lyrics, though, but I would love to hear why. Honestly, I'm just interested in knowing your impression of me in general and what kind of things you relate to your idea of me.

The linesIf I could fly
Oh, if I could fly
But I'm not able even to rise or tell coloursreminded me of our discussion about emotions. I recall that you said you would not want to live as a human void of emotions. In other words, what's the point of living if one could not appreciate the beauty of the world? What's the point of flying if one could not rise or tell colours?
The first stanza also reminds me of you, which to me sounds like criticism on seeing knowledge as the good thing in itself. Instead, to maintain the "truth and original meaning" of it, one has to accept knowledge as merely a tool for emotions, not the other way around, which would be my philosophy.
I always saw you as a melancholic and romantic humanist, and that is precisely what those lines sound like to me.
I even see myself in those lyrics.I scrape myself
Searching for a way to escape
Knowing it is bound to failI will always be imperfect, yet I try. One of my friends uses a wall to symbolize this human limit, and that happens to be some imagery Sirrah uses in their lyrics as well.

You asked for more, but all I currently have is some small stuff I drew on my folders (boring lectures are boring). Still, that is more than nothing, so I'll share those two with you:
- My discrete mathematics folder looks cheesy, I know. Originally I intended to make a complete scene out of it, with a whole forest and creatures climbing them, but I got bored of it eventually.
- My programming folder has some honeycombs that I thought you could relate to.
Really did not come out the way I wanted, partly because I was too lazy to draw more bees and because drawing liquids is a pain, but I reckon it's okay for decoration.

I really love both of them. The first one I like because of the idea of something new springing up from death and decay. I love doing things like that. There is just something that I find endlessly beautiful about the cycles of life and death and the give and take of energy between different lifeforms.
The second one I completely adore (and am insanely jealous of). For as much as I like the free flow of organic shapes, I find something very pleasing to the eye in the geometric patterns of honeycombs....and yours turned out much more accurate than mine. I also really like the single stream of pouring honey next to the drips. The isolation of it gives a sense of a moment in time.
By the way, your "small stuff" you drew on folders beat the doodles I draw during notes any day.

I have nothing to add. You describe my work better than I do. I always get impressed by your ability to nail down specifics and to formulate your thoughts so eloquently. The best example is when you called my line work "heavy and angular". I did not even know my own style and you described it in such a simple and accurate way. It is a real pleasure to be complimented by someone as analytical as you because those words actually mean something.

Thanks, Timo. I find that I tend to be way better at analyzing art than I am at actually creating it. I think that part of that is because I over analyze my own work as I'm creating it and end up either hating it or giving up on it. Plus, I try so hard to do everything with intention and it stifles the natural flow of my work.

Gosh, I wanted to say exactly that in the previous comment (except for the part about being good at analyzing, of course ). I was surprised you like my work so much when I am so unhappy with it; likewise, you say you're not very happy with yours yourself, while I find it adorable. The burden of perfectionism.

Your stuff is really interesting. I don't know if that's much coming from me because I'm a shitty writer myself, painter mostly, but I liked it a lot. I adore descriptive pieces. You can feel so much more from simple things like the colour of a room.

Oh, sorry. I thought I sent one. It must not have sent.
By the way, I was reading a section in a book today and it reminded me of you. It was a book on Freud's analysis of Leonardo de Vinci. It talk about his views on love and emotion and they were very similar to your own. I just figured you'd appreciate that you think much like a figure that I idolize deeply.

Leonardo da Vinci, A Memory of His Childhood ? o:
I don't know much of da Vinci, but now I certainly like him a lot more!
Besides, I like this one very much:Michelangelo was asked: "Why don't you sleep with women?" The answer was: "What I give to a woman, I won't be able to give to my sculpture."

I can't really agree with his views. They're kind of opposite to mine. He's saying that subjective opinions aren't really valid, but that is only if you feel like one opinion has to win over the other. I don't believe that. I believe that your own opinions and views are valid for yourself. That is why you form them. You don't have views just so you can crush others, and no view is absolute. We create views based on what we as individuals know to be right and have a tendency to surround ourselves with people whom we believe carry the essential parts of these views. That's why man through time has formed groups. Man forms together through similarities and progress through common goals. In some cases one takes over another group by power, but that is what I don't like about it. I don't like that others force their opinions on people because I feel like each opinion is valid. Each person has their own path with no actual right or wrong. That being said, I don't find it wrong to disagree and state why because it helps people form their opinions and further them through a view of the opposing side, and inversely helps people find common ground on their opinions so that we can coexist.

"I believe that your own opinions and views are valid for yourself."
So why do you believe that? Because you think your view is right. In other words, from your point of view your opinion wins over another. Unless, of course, "winng over another" is not equivalent to "being right" to you. If that is the case, I do not see how Obviously Jesus is trying to "win"... He is merely trying to be right. ._."
