Thanks for the comment, sorry for the late reply.
Starting point.... that's a tuff one. The best thing to do is decide the type of images you want to do. Me, Iβm more interested in doing characters and stuff like that. So the software I use is Poser, Bryce and programs along those lines. Cos the art you want to produce will be dictated by the software you use. And to be honest, Iβm not that great with the 3D software, my main strengths are in photoshop, I kinda fell into 3D art because of some work I was doing at the time for a comic.
So I guess what Iβm trying to say is, have a look about at some 3D art, and decided what you like, then have a look in some magazines, web sites etc to find out the software you need to produce the images you want and go from there. Itβs the way I started. Getting some 3D magazines is a great way to try out the software before you buy it; there is always a cover disc with a trial version of the featured software with them. And most will have the workshops in them to show you the basics on using that software. Itβs also another way of getting lots of free models and objects to use in the programs, otherwise you could end up spending a small fortune on add-ons and plug-ins.
Anymore questions or thoughts, feel free to ask them, hope this helps a little. ;0)

"It is not about which artist is more skilled than which other artist. It is about creating what is in you to create. A lack of confidence in oneself is like a thief, It steals from the world that which might be worthy." ~ Derek R. Audette
