Jolly nice to meet you! How are you doing?

And what do you think about this quote? Your most recent reply to me reminded me of it just now -

'Søren Kierkegaard, Danish philosopher, he said that we come to the world with sealed orders. And that is part of what I'm saying: we never know when something we say, a smile we give, we don’t know if that maybe is not one of the things that somebody else will carry around for the rest of their life.' - Liv Ullmann, from  www.youtube.com/watch?feature=…

Amazonofexeter In reply to Farand [2016-02-01 23:56:32 +0000 UTC]

Thank you, sorry, have been recovering from wisdom tooth surgery and then catching up with work and events....still a little behind but I might regain my feet sometime soon!

That quote is so true, an action can seem so simple, so meaningless or even so careless, yet, to someone who is on the receiving end, intentionally or not, it can change their world. On one hand, it should make us think, to try to be nicer people - to make sure we try to do nicer things. On the other hand, we cannot know where a bad comment or experience might lead. But, personally, I'd rather try to be proactive in giving out good experiences, I am sure I create enough bad ones unintentionally to keep the balance, so I'll keep on trying to make the world a better place on the off chance that what I say might make the difference to someone. I know on one or two occaisions that support or advice has lead to what I feel are positive outcomes, or so the people involved say!

I hope you had a good Christmas and New Year, and that life is treating you well so far?

How's your recovery going, my good man? Sorry for the late reply, I've been away...

Your interpretation of Ullmann's comment is beautiful, and says many good things about you. We don't know each other, but it's pretty clear that you're a thoroughly decent chap!

I did have a good Christmas and New Year, thank you! And you?

heheh, only saying the truth about your work

Thank you, it's a painting of my friend climbing some steps, but it, in common with most of my work is being done in really fine detail....I've been sidetracked slightly so am way behind where I needed to be on it, but it is growing and the bits finished so far on it have met with interest...hopefully manage to get it finished ver the next few months and will be able to post a picture of it, along with a few wip....!!

fenifire In reply to Amazonofexeter [2016-10-05 14:58:45 +0000 UTC]

aww you're too kind my dear

climbing up stairs is one of the most difficult poses to paint that's really admirable that you're working on such a subject
haha why did I have to think about my terrible time-organizing skills and finishing some artworks in a few years?..
I need to follow your example and work a bit more
and your wips sound exciting

My lady's caring for three Tawny owl chicks. They were brought in by someone who found them sitting on a branch, so she says. The idiot couldn't remember where she found them else they'd have been taken straight back.

You'd think that might have stuck in their mind just a little...! At least they are being looked after by someone with their best interests at h(e)art
I've not seen anything more of the family here but have heard the adults calling and being mobbed in the area - must be just after the adults wake for the evening so about 7.30pm the mobbing starts but is just a bit too deep in the woodland to see!

Amazonofexeter In reply to MatesLaurentiu [2015-04-03 14:01:32 +0000 UTC]

It's very impressive! I bought a few pieces of Dartington crystal glass from their sale to have a go at it, not least as I saw some of the professional pieces and thought I might be able to do better, or at least not make the same mistakes they have, just need to finish all the other little jobs first before I can give that a go!

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

MatesLaurentiu In reply to Amazonofexeter [2015-04-03 23:41:05 +0000 UTC]

My advice is not to start on such expensive material. Try some plain glass first, let your hand get used with the pressure and the vibration of the dremel (which can be quite uncomfortable after awhile) and when you're sure of what you want to do and have some experience, try one of the crystal glasses. My try was on this kind of beer glass. I ended up engraving a whole set and giving them as gifts to my friends.

Amazonofexeter In reply to MatesLaurentiu [2015-04-05 18:32:24 +0000 UTC]

That's a good point, I got it in the sale, mainly because I was concerned if cheaper glass would take the vibrations ok or not. Did you use the mains dremel direct onto the glass or did you use the flexible extention? Thank you for the pointers!!

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

MatesLaurentiu In reply to Amazonofexeter [2015-04-06 12:19:19 +0000 UTC]

You can do it either was but the extension has a thinner grip thus is more comfortable to hold. I used diamond tipped cutters (you can find whole sets of them and they are not very expensive). It would be also a good idea to either work outside or to have a fan nearby when you work as to not breathe in the fine glass powder resulting from the engraving. The engraving does't go as deep as you imagine so the glass is pretty stable - unless you work on sugar glass. There are a few tutorials on youtube about the whole process, just search with "dremel glass engravin" search words.

Amazonofexeter In reply to MatesLaurentiu [2015-04-10 19:00:08 +0000 UTC]

That makes sense re the extension, will have to try it, and yes, I'd wondered about the glass dust and planned outside or with a vacuum etc - probably both! Thank you for the advice and encouragement!
