No probs, I'm also relatively new to photography when compared to a lot of people on this site. Only been doing it for maybe 2 years.

You'll pick things up quickly since you have an artistic eye. I think some good advice I can give you is perspective - try to pick out interesting angles, perspectives, and ways of seeing things in ways that the human eye does not usually see. Try to make your images lead the eye in a certain direction - it adds flow to your pictures. Avoid overcrowding the photo with things if possible, as that will take away from the movement/flow of a picture. If you can combine proper flow/movement with an interesting perspective, you'll most likely have a fairly good photo.

Here's something called the "rule of thirds" - it is one of the most fundamental rules in photography: It helps to draw a 9-square grid on a piece of paper for practice (dividing the paper essentially into thirds, both horizontally and vertically). Generally speaking, subjects are most effective when they're placed off-centre, although there are some styles that favor a centred-subject. The 4 corners of the middle square are good spots to have your main subject. Anything else in the photo should not detract from this main subject. Try to make sure that the subject stands out more, even just a bit more, to differentiate from the rest of the picture. Any other objects, subjects, or people in the photo should be GENERALLY (and i mean generally, because there are tons of exceptions to this) there to lead the eye to the focal point or to accompany the subject/focal point of the photo.

Also don't be afraid to edit photos. It's been done ever since photos existed. Photoshop is a good choice if you don't already have it. I don't use photoshop, but I know most of my friends do and it works wonders on their shots. There are tons of tutorials online if you just google "photoshop tutorials".

Most of improving though just comes with practice, so get out there and shoot some photos. Good luck.
