Just curious: have you started reading my Gamma World novel?

I most certainly have! I just thought it would have been appropriate to comment on the novel after all the chapters were finished.
But if you're asking me about it, though, I can certainly say this: I'm loving every word of it! Symphony was certainly a nice twist to compliment the setting of Gamma World. And so far this has been an interesting tour of post-Big Mistake Canada! The fights and road battles have been exciting, if not instructive for me as a writer. I am looking forward to more chapters as they come out!
I, myself, have been busy with a setting of my own as of late. It's... weird. To say the least. I guess the best way to describe it genre-wise is "Western Fantasy Space Opera." I kind of couldn't make up my mind on a single aspect so I just said "screw it, I'll try to put it all together!" So far, it's been fun! Mostly been working on species and cultures with a friend and we're considering making this not just for a story or series of stories, but also possibly set it up for tabletop gaming, too. However, I suppose that's a different discussion for another time.

Thanks, I really appreciate the kind words and support. I'm glad you're enjoying it
For myself, Symphony is my favourite character. I'm a huge fan of cats, and always put them in my stories; even if they only have a small part to play. And giving my readers a chance to cross postapocalyptic Canada is quite fun; especially for the non-Canadians
I know what it's like not being able to make up your mind about a setting; happens to me all the time. I hope things work out for you

You're welcome! And thanks for your words of encouragement, too!
And yeah, sometimes the setting genre is the kicker in most stories. Thankfully, this has been a really fun project, whether anything comes out of it or not! And it's surprisingly easy to make parallels between them rather than all the competing I was worried was going to occur. I think some of the better thoughts I've had was drawing a parallel between the railroad system of the Old West and the Jump Gate system seen in a number of Sci-fi stories. Then there is the Fantasy Horror element which blends well with Lovecraftian Cosmic Horror seen in Science Fantasy and Fiction along with Western Fantasy with Native American mysticism among the mix of other cultures and superstitions brought about through slavery and immigration.
Alien species have also been fun, doubly so when I decided to put a limit on the number of humanoid species that would exist in this setting. That then encouraged those involved, including myself, to come up with stranger evolutionary leaps and weird critters, pretty much trying to gain the variety seen in things like Star Wars and Farscape rather than Star Trek and Stargate SG-1 (though both are great shows and I'm sure something will be inspired by them). Add to that strange cultural norms brought about by such simple things like homeworld environment and even body structure alone and it makes for a fun time!
I suppose the main points of this setting are that of exploration, the excitement and fear of the unknown, and a dash of otherworldly horror and two-fisted heroics. And of course, humor always has it's place in my works! Probably the biggest writing project that I've ever been excited to work on!

Atticus-Runemaster In reply to CaoimheFraney [2012-02-18 03:53:21 +0000 UTC]
Ah, yes. Flinn the Fine. He and his player had some great lines and lead ups. "Save your threats. You have no power here." *Zaps Flinn dead* "...as if killing the Bard impresses us."
"Flinn, what did the barmaid say?" "Oh yes, oh yes, oh god, yes." "About Mort Kemnon. Dumbass."
"I've got firewood!" *Insta-slayed by Paladin*
Truly a fine movie. Journey Quest was pretty good too. However, Dorkness Rising quotes have been banned by our GM at our gaming table as of late due to too many quotes and misquotes. We're also well on our way to adding the first "The Gamers" movie to that list. And it all started with my brother asking, as a gnome Paladin, for the strongest drink at the bar. I (GM for that game) almost lost it when I replied, "The barkeep warns you... Dwarven Ale is not for the weak of stomach."
Ahh, good times and good movies.

Oh wow. I didn't realize that you lived so close to me. I suppose that's what I get for assuming that you lived overseas or across the states.
Anyway, I really love your artwork and comics. Oliver is by far my favorite read in your gallery. As for the My Little Pony D&D stuff, I haven't quite gotten on board with the MLP craze yet, but I am an avid roleplayer so I am quite familiar with D&D and I have to say that I love the situations that you portray for them.

Yeah, it's weird running into people from your area. While I was in college, I found out one of my deviantart friends had been in my class for two years and we never knew. It's a funny ol' world.

Yeah, the world is kind of funny like that.
Say, you wouldn't happen to still be an active table-top gamer, would you? I've been looking for other players/groups to play with as of late. So far the closest group I've found is in Virginia Beach.

Cool! I've played a few sessions like that before along with Map Tools. Mind you, Eclipse Phase isn't the easiest game to play in this manner; the character sheets alone made it a hassle for a while. It got a bit better once we got a hold on an Excel Sheet setup for it. We pretty much thought that the EP Character Creation and Sheets were the most complex thing we would ever have to deal with. Then one day, I picked up Rifts...
Anyway, as I've said before, I'm on the look out for games to play as the head of my current group is in the process of moving to a new house so it will be a while until we play again. Plus we're stuck on what to play for now.
Just last week we tried to run a d6 Star Wars game only to end up wanting to play Serenity shortly after starting due to a misused word when looking for work. I was playing a Smuggler and we just got finished unloading completely legal cargo. Anyway, from talking about Serenity we somehow ended up on the topic of Star Trek which led us to d6 Space. I stepped out to grab something to eat from the nearby gas station after that (gone for only five minutes) and when I got back they had gone through three - four other systems before deciding to play World of Darkness. That didn't get off the ground because most of our players didn't have their character sheets and our GM didn't want to sit there as they try to remake them. Plus he didn't like running WoD anyway. He likes playing it, but running it? Not at all.
The discovery of Castles and Crusades might eventually get us back into the grove of playing again, but only after the move is complete.

You're welcome. I've always had a weak spot for Bards of all kinds. Bones certainly seemed like an interesting character. He definitely will inspire something similar, either RP or storytelling.
Keep up the good work and happy new year to you too.

Players do a lot of the same strange things. In my SWSE game I had to ban all non-core materials after they started to try and use home brew races from the internet.

Tell me about it. With some of the older games, the source material alone is daunting enough as it is without having to throw third party materials into the mix. I usually have them approve their characters with me before they start writing stuff down. As for when I play, I hardly ever stray from human/human-like characters. I guess I have some racial/species pride or something.

I remembered when I picked 3.5 up late in the run after playing other games since 3.0 and just started dog-earing two weapon feats and ignoring the rest of the books.
I like humans because getting an extra feat at first level means having a usable build weeks or months earlier than if I used another race. Even in 4th Ed half my builds take at least three feats to work.
