# About me

Basically never grew out of making up stories and drawing pictures of my favourite video game characters...

Enjoying doodling and slowly improving my art but still do words better. Those stories are over at FFNet - probably even a cursory glance at my galleries tells you who I mostly write about!

Considering our status as repeat offenders, how do you think our chances are calling on the Society for Prevention of Cruelty to Fictional Characters to investigate the IDW writers? Because by now even our most terrible installments look like camping trips by comparison.

Is it me or is the next issue seeming to take an age this time around.Β

I'm ready for this arc to be wrapped up!Β  What else can they possibly do to up the ante at this point?Β  It has to start resolving!

They always take ages it seems to me! And I get to add shipping time. Okay, that one's my fault, but I'm enjoying the feel of an actual physical copy. But it means more waiting!

Same here. There's only so long you can hold this level of drama before it becomes exhausting to keep up with, and they've definitely reached that point. The characters have needed a break for issues, and by now I feel like I as a reader really need a break, too. Suspense lives off ups and downs. It's time for ups now, please.
It can hardly get any worse anyway anymore. There aren't many people left to zombotify, and unless they mean to convert everyone into Zombots, they need to at least get started wrapping it up somehow!

Especially with something based on pictures like a comic. I've grown to be quite comfortable with reading fic and stuff on an e-book-reader or my phone. Doesn't seem to work that way with comics for me.

I can’t read comics on a phone for certain. Β A full size tablet I can just about manage. comics just multiply so fast is my main reason for getting them electronically.

Althugh I have known to get the monthly electronically then the trade paperbacks in hardcopy when thery finally come out.

Speedy1236 In reply to Awdures [2020-02-05 20:58:41 +0000 UTC]

I don't know, tablets and I don't really work well together. For some reason I find the screens overwhelming and too large (although much smaller than a computer, laptop or TV screen). Maybe it's the short viewing distance...

I considered doing that for the Sonic comic once it was clear they publish paperbacks after completion of an arc. It's nice to have all of the story in one volume to read, but I don't want to wait that long and I didn't like the digital comics I tried near as much as the physical copies, so, monthly prints it is for me, I guess!

So, I found this song from an old favorite album of mine. It is about Knuckles, and I presume the lyrics describe the conversation he has with Eggman before Super Sonic comes a crashing into his island. Figured you'd chuckle quite a bit if you heard it. Makes me want to write a short story about the situation!

Wild silly inspiration - yeah.

I adore Snowdonia. Β One of the places that a hundred miles north of actual home still feels like home because in spite of the hordes of tourists the language is so strong there. Β The Eisteddfod is on the north eastern edge of that area this year so I'm planning plenty of exploring!

Speedy1236 In reply to Awdures [2019-03-29 20:25:53 +0000 UTC]

You can add an exploring holiday to the Steddfod trip! First the festivaling with lots of people, and then a couple days of hiking around the wilderness with nobody in sight for hours to wind down again.

This homely place not quite AT home sounds a little like my feelings for the Sauerland. It's the region directly East of my actual home, 50 to 150 kilometres or so of distance. It's not the same as home, where a lot places are very familiar, but it's a similar landscape. Their hills are higher than ours, there's more coniferous forests than beeches and oaks, but overall there's many hills and forests and the giant lakes that strongly play into what's home for me. It's kinda like an extension to home that's less familiar and fun to explore, but it isn't really a trip "elsewhere".
It's close enough for a day trip, too. I'm going tomorrow; need to show the new car around (and thoroughly test it on curvy roads up and down hills!).

I almost always do!Β  The Ordnance Survey series of walking maps do this thing where you can bang in a postcode and get a map centrered on that point and I've got a stack of them centrered on the past few years steddfodau!

It's funny how much a sense of place somewhere can have.Β

As a collection this seems like great memorabilia, too. I like maps from holiday places. Even years later, you probably wouldn't remember spontaneously, but when you look at the map and the place names you can often go "hey, this was this cool place where we did X".

Oh, sounds great! XD

Real life has a way of pulling me away as well. I took a girl out to dinner for the first time in my whole introverted life. That was a nice experience, it's just suddenly, I have to remain conscious of her existence, but that's not always the greatest thing to have on the back of my mind since it tends to distract from the other things I need to do in life. I want to forget about her so I can work on these things better, but it's like I can't! XD

Actually I wanted to invite you a writers discord server I got up and going if you'd like. We just talk about story construction in pretty much anything there. It's a small group with just a few people whom I trust to behave on it. I think you might like it there being an English teacher and all that. I know I'd love to have your input.

You have no idea how weird it sounds to someone from Wales to hear "less than 10 hour drive" as though it were a small thing though - there is literally no direction in which I could travelfor 10 hours without ending up at least two countries away!Β  This has been my semi-regular reminder that America Is LargeΒ

TheSwordLegion In reply to Awdures [2018-11-12 01:19:08 +0000 UTC]

That's what I think. Besides, long distance relationships are not new. You know I romanticize the medieval period, but because of that, I have to think to myself. "How hard was it for all those knights to to go on duty far away from their lovers for large periods of time?" We have the answer, they wrote letters, but today we're privileged enough to have live chat services! Besides, you value what you work for, and I'm willing to put a lot of effort into her so long our ideology and plan for life match enough. I'm not interested in casual dating or instant gratification. I am a proud introvert and criticle thinker. I am ready to put in effort and be here for the long run. That's what you get when you do this sort of thing with a twice published author! : P

DUUUDE.

i've only just recently gotten into Sonic again and its mostly because of fanfiction (YOURS and SPEEDY's my LAWD you guys are amazing) . i havent ever had the good fortune to play the games then or now, but i did get to watch Sonic X a little as a kid and from that point on i have absolutely LOVED Knuckles' character and i just ADORE the way you write him in your fics.Β

masterfully written and layered in a way that provokes a different way at looking at the guy.Β
especially since later incarnations of him paint him as a meathead whose smarts arent anything to look forward to when really he's smart in different ways, that he just doesnt understand most things Sonic and co. might be used to because he's spent the bigger part of his life isolated on Angel Island, bound to his duty and past.Β
the way you write his bond with the Master emerald is intriguing as well.

needless to say i've spent hours reading your stuff (still kinda am) and i've enjoyed every bit of it.
thank you for all you've done. looking forward to the next story, if ever you decide to weave another.Β
-Cloud/OozeCanister
(excuse me whilst i huddle in a corner, this is the first time i've left such a long comment on anyonne's profile... i rarely say anything but i just had to speak up. writers just need a lot more recognition, i think. writing is an art all on its own. forgive me if i've rambled or if this has been too horribly long winded. )

Cheers - who doesn't love feedback like that

Sonic X did a not-too-bad job with Knuckles a lot of the time.Β  There's occasions where he gets handed the idiotball because the plot requires it, but there's almost always some reason he thinks what he does which would have worked with just a tiny bit more detail given.Β  And they get the dynamics of his interaction with Sonic down really well - that balance of snarking off each other but instantly coming together if there's a larger threat.Β  And the Master Emerald is mostly well used there - it does useful, meaningful plt things instead of being a macguffin and Knuckles' attachment to it is clear and used reasonably effectively, particularly some of the flashback type moments when they're stuck on earth.

I agree that Knuckles isn't stupid - he's just unworldly, often ill-informed and his decision-making is frequently terrible!Β  Done right those aren't 'stupid' they're useful interest character things which can drive plot without making him look a fool.

Cheers again - next story was going to be Mania adapt but I sort of got distracted by the possibility of Plus and the Adventures animation throwing my mental continutyi into disarray so there'll probably be some one-shots instead until those finish coming out!

I read Chapter 4 of One of These Things is True.

I really loved it! You have done me a great service in remembering what inspired me to love Sonic so much! I can't believe it, but you somehow made Knuckles as the leader of the resistance make sense. I was shocked, but I can almost see it now!

How you see the Emerald's powers and chaos energy is also really interesting to me. I'd like to thank you for trying to use more of that since it helped me think of my own concepts. You know--I've always wondered how much Knuckles can use Chaos energy. In Sonic Heroes, he can make earth themed power orbs fly out of the ground when he punches it. In the Sonic Advance games, he can even shoot hadokans--kindof similar to his punches in Sonic Adventure.

I mean, in my own head, all mobian's generate a little bit of chaos energy in them naturally, and this is why the make such great batteries, as well as natural combatants. Sonic I thought was part of a special bloodline from Angel Island, as I explained. Even Tails has potential there I think since he is possibly based of the Kitsune.

Gah, You revive all my inspiration! Thank you so much!

Awdures In reply to TheSwordLegion [2018-04-24 20:53:19 +0000 UTC]

Cheers.

It's a hard sell isn't it.Β  I think the key thing is making it clear enough that yes he's managing but only through deliberate effort, it's not something that comes naturally to him.

And I can waffle and play with ideas ad infinitum on the cubject of chaos-ish worldbuilding!

I have always gone with chaos energy 'sensitivity' of a sort being fairly common, just only occasionally as dramatic as it is with the main characters.Β  I like it as an explanation for the 'living battery' theme though.
