Thanks! I decided that since Beryllmon is a metal dragon, and based on several elements on the periodic table, his armor forms should have something to do with gems and other shiny rocks/minerals.

That is a bit true, sometimes the flares are ignited in our nasal cavities and shoot out of our nostrils. We could also close out mouth while exhaling flames but that would feel a bit unpleasant.
