Hey Samie!

Just wondered if you'd heard of ? It's a bit mad, if I'm honest, but it's really pushing me to meet a lot of other deviants, be part of the community more etc etc.

Basically, they set you a task each day and you complete it! Simple. It's good fun. I don't really have time, but am still doing it - I'm only a few behind I think, haha!

Hope you're well & 'enjoying' being back at school as much as is possible!

Hey!

Yeah, I read your Blog about it the other day - it sounds like a good idea! I would do it, apart from the fact that I'm seriously lacking any creativity at the moment; not to mention the time! I seem to have my head stuck in a book during all of my free time.

Well, school is alright. I much prefer being back than being at home. I feel happier at school. It's just the exams! Gah. Why can't they be like GCSE's? Nice and easy!

I hope you're enjoying being at home, and watching films!

BlueFairy-07 In reply to Colourless-Calamity [2010-01-14 03:26:46 +0000 UTC]

It's actually a really bad idea, so sorry for bringing it up! I'm sure it would take up less time when I actually catch up, but the fact is it's taking up revision time. Which I'm fine with now, but once I fail - probably not so much.

But I tend to be drawn to things that waste my time. Haha.

It's good your stuck in books - well, are they good books? Or the boring ones?

That's fair enough. Seriously enjoy school while it lasts, I didn't realise how different university would be. Different in a good way, maybe, but I really miss school. I was one of those who loved it there too.

Good luck with exams, hope they go well for you!
Haha yeah. I actually totalled up how many I've watched over Christmas and it's over 40. That's bad, isn't it? Like 'get a life' bad?

Colourless-Calamity In reply to BlueFairy-07 [2010-01-14 17:25:24 +0000 UTC]

Haha, don't be sorry! And I don't blame you for avoiding revision - it is bloody boring! Finding the motivation is a lot easier said than done.

I'm afraid the only books I have my head stuck in are my Biology and History books. But once the exams are done, I'm going to finish reading Mein Kampf for my History coursework. Then during the summer, I have a whole list of books I am going to read. I think I have an addiction to buying books!

Oh, I'm already getting depressed at the idea of leaving school. I would love to be able to get my exams out of the way, but still attend lessons. That would be brilliant. I'm afraid my last day will resemble a horrible emotional outburst. Plus, we've already got our Leavers Hoodies - it's just making it all more real.

No, I'm the same. During holidays I'm always watching films. To the point where I actually don't know what to watch anymore. But the internet always has something new to offer!

BlueFairy-07 In reply to Colourless-Calamity [2010-01-17 21:49:49 +0000 UTC]

Ahh man, that's a tough one! Keep it up though if you're actually doing it. I think someone would have to physically force me to even get my head near a Biology book! You're good!

ME TOO. I've had this crazy addiction to book-buying recently.. it's like, I just buy a book - read the first couple of chapters, then buy another one and get impatient and want to read that. So i'm on chapter 3 in like 10 books at the minute, it's really quite frustrating.

I know what you mean. Ah, the Leaver's Hoodies. Our school ones were such a rip-off I never bought one. Criminal, I know.

Exactly! The internet is definitely number 1 distraction, even before films. Or books. I just need to get out more.

But let me know how the exams go anyway! I'm sure you'll be just fine. Just focus on how much you want to go to uni and it should get you through

Biology isn't too bad, when it's genetics. But photosynthesis, respiration, and anything to do with bloody plants! Ahh, it drives me insane.

I bought two more books the other day! I've run out of space on bookshelf too, which is ultra-annoying. But, it does mean that eventually I'll have to go to Ikea and buy another one! (I have a huge fondness towards book-cases) - It's just in the mean time, I'm having to squeeze all my books in where I can.

Yeah, my hoodie was £25. But, it is big and warm. It's brilliant to snuggle up in!

Thanks, I get my results in March. Hopefully I would have made some improvement upon last year's results. It would be horribly depressing if I did even worse!

Haha. I know, with some things you often wonder 'And what, exactly, is the point and purpose of me having to know this?' It doesn't help revision when that's the question constantly in your mind!

Which books did you get? I ordered Dracula and Anne Rice's Vampire series - Interview with the Vampire etc.. I thought that because of the Twilight craze, I'd go and read some REAL vampire novels. Haha, I suppose I can't really judge Twilight as I haven't read it, but sparkling vampires just seem to be taking the piss a bit. Have you read them?

I love big hoodies. They're the best.

Yeah you'll be fine; I'm sure if you've worked for it, it'll pay off more than you expect.

Colourless-Calamity In reply to BlueFairy-07 [2010-01-20 17:43:13 +0000 UTC]

Haha! I haven't read Twilight, and I have no intention of reading them even. From what I've gathered, vampires, poorly written, and silly characters - it would be a book that would do nothing but annoy me. I'm a Harry Potter fangirl. I really wish that Rowling would write an autobiography for Dumbledore. He's such an amazing character!

I bought a biography entitled "Young Stalin" by Simon Sebag Montefore (what a brilliant name, eh?) and a little book that was originally a leaflet handed out to the British Army when they were entering France in 1944 about national customs and how to behave. I bought another one last year for American soliders coming to Britain. They're quite funny!

I know. I love vampires, but if she's completely ruined it, it's probably not worth it.
Ah that's so true! Dumbledore is amazing - I reckon that'd be a really interesting book. And probably the most worth it if she was to do some sort of follow-up.

I did buy a Stalin biography, but only read a section of it during A-Level. That is an awesome name though, let's hope the book is just as good!

You could write her a letter, then send her that picture of you with Gordon Brown. That should persuade her

I'm already back. Although not properly, this is just the exam period. The semester starts again next week

I actually got my Gordon Brown pictures through today. I showed my teachers, and they were all in flaps of excitement.

Cool. Good luck with your exams!

Man you should so put them up!

Thank you! Methinks they might have gone alright (well, only because I only need 40% and that shouldn't be too bad..). One of my exams was pretty much a guessing game, but since it was Multiple Choice, I'm hoping I could have scraped enough to not have to retake. Ugh.

On the bright side, I'm taking Social Anthropology this semester, which I'm really excited about!

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Colourless-Calamity In reply to BlueFairy-07 [2010-01-29 22:38:43 +0000 UTC]

I'm trying to scan them in, but will my scanner work?
NO!

Typical. The one time I actually want to use it for something, it starts making loud horrible cracky noises at me.

Ohh, I love multiple choice exams. One of my Science GCSE's was all multiple choice! It was absolutely brilliant!

What's Social Anthropology all about?

BlueFairy-07 In reply to Colourless-Calamity [2010-01-30 13:15:12 +0000 UTC]

Ah, technology has a really annoying habit of doing that.
I hope it hasn't blown itself up or something horrible!

I know, they're so helpful. Just because you can get away with just reading over stuff, and understanding it - and that'd be enough. You don't have to torture yourself trying to remember everything. Which is the killer in revision. So that was definitely good! My Psychology was MCQ as well. Just Sociology that was essay writing.

Anth is similar to sociology, but less about concepts and theories of. It's all to do with studying different cultures and their way of life, it sounds fascinating.

I wouldn't mind if it blew up. It's a pile of rubbish, and it would give me enough reason to go and buy a new printer - which I've been meaning to do for years now!

Ohh, sounds interesting.

What do you plan to do after you're done with University?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

BlueFairy-07 In reply to Colourless-Calamity [2010-02-01 16:01:23 +0000 UTC]

Haha oh dear. You should just buy a new reliable one.

Yeah we had our first lecture today & watched some of this 4oD Documentary directed by a Manchester Graduate (shameless uni promotion, haha) called 'Meet the Natives' - where 5 tribesmen from this island in the South Pacific get sent to the UK - & it was so funny.

In terms of what I'm doing after uni, I have no idea. Really haven't a clue. I'm sort of hoping this degree will give me an idea as to which direction to take things, but yeah.. right now I don't know. I don't even know if Social Sciences/Psychology is what I want to do. Sometimes I think I'll just go ahead and become a struggling playwright. Hah.

Colourless-Calamity In reply to BlueFairy-07 [2010-02-01 23:34:02 +0000 UTC]

Ahh yes! I saw that when it first aired on TV a few years ago. I remember it being quite good.

Ahh, well I'm sure you'll know what you want to do someday. I mean, there are people who never really know what to do with their lives - and thinking about it, making a decision which will direct which course your life will lead, isn't exactly one that should be taken lightly.

And why not become a playwright? From what I've read of your work, it's excellent!

I've been good thanks. Yesterday I had dinner with the Grannies, and today I sorted out my Cousin's new laptop; bloody crappy actually, seeing as I could have gone to Brighton with my friends.

Oh yay!! That's brilliant to hear, well done you! I bet you were so relieved

So what are you doing in Sixth Form then? (have you started already? if not - good luck for your first day! )

Haha, sounds like fun. But then the weather's just been dreadful so I'm sure Brighton wouldn't have been much better.

I've been reading loads of plays & books to try and put into my personal statement.. i've been doing that too. And then today I've been at school 9-4 helping them unpack into the new buildings. My legs & back actually ache so much, I'm like an old woman! The new buildings aren't that impressive - I'm SO disappointed with the drama room. It's a box. That's about it. With a blue floor. The dance studio is unfairly amazing compared to it.. laminate flooring with mirrors & everything. Oh well. I'm helping out tomorrow & wed too.. am going to be shattered before I even get back to school.

Hope you've been ok! (I do miss talking to you, but am just stupidly busy..)

Thank you!

Sixth Form I will be doing Chemistry, Biology, History and Psychology. I have an interview on Wednesday about it all where I finalise my choices and the like. I think I start properly on Thursday... Although to be honest, I haven't the faintest. The School printed on all the newsletters and stuff that the Year 12's start back officially on the 8th, but the website says otherwise!

Wow, sounds like you've been putting in a lot of extra work! Sorry to hear about the Drama Studio! Our one doesn't appear to be that good, it's all black, and stuff. I don't know, I only ever went in there a couple of times to help friends rehearse. I played the part of the audience quite well!

Try not to wear yourself out too much!

Lol, same! Hetic lives, who would have 'em?

I'm going back to take an AS in it as well, so I might be doing the same things as you - what are you studying? We've got Henry VIII & Russia I think.. got my first lesson tomorrow morn

Good luck with it all then, hope it's what you expected, & more

Oh yeah, I'll tell you! I have my first lessons on Monday. Today was rather shite, we were only in for two hours, and they cocked up all the admin, so we didn't get our timetables or anything. It was all rather pointless really!

History, we're doing King James I, Malcolm X, Stalin's Russia... I think there is something else too, but I forget.

Ahh, I'm sure it will be. I'll find out on Monday!
I hope you enjoy next year too!

Sixth Form is good; well... For the most part. I've got my first Module Chemistry and Biology exams just after Christmas (literally, 9th January); and I have yet to actually get higher than an "E" in any Chemistry test I've done!

Ooh good luck with your exams, I'm sure you'll be just fine Everyone starts low and works their way up..

Yeah, I'm ok. Keep getting ill, which sucks. But I think everyone's got something lately (grr.. winter!) I'm still drowning in my workload, as per usual. Although it seems that once the holidays come up, all the teachers suddenly feel the need to pile even more on top of the mound.

I'm finding History difficult as it's a new subject, but I should be fine.. all else is ok, thank you

Have had a University interview at Cambridge - bloody scary! Haha, I don't think I did very well at all. I'm not very good at trying to explain things whilst talking. If they asked me to write it out, I would be fine.. but we'll see. I think I hear in January.

But anyway, it's Christmas tomorrow and that's something to be happy about! I hope you have a brilliant day tomorrow.. take a break from revision, haha

Hope you're ok,

Aww, I hope you get better soon! I know what you mean though, I keep getting the sniffles, and over the past couple of days, I've just been sneezing constantly! Ahh, nightmare!

Yeah, teachers really do know how to make a Christmas eh!?

Ahh, hopefully you'll be alright. I've come to realise it's my favourite subject. And for the most part, you can't get it wrong, because a lot of it is about opinion and interpretation. What topics are you studying in History?

Ohh! You have to tell me when you know! I'm sure you did fine though, and they'd be idiots to turn you down!

Did you have a good day in the end? Hopefully it wasn't too bad..

Really, that's good. I like it, it's just I feel like I'm struggling because there's so much to learn. We're doing Russia in Revolution, Stalin's Russia and Henry VIII.

Mocks are doing my head in though. I wish I'd lighten up about them.. But I sort of want to do well.. Do you have mocks coming up?

I didn't get into Cambridge (can't remember if I told you :S) but am probably going to Uni of Manchester to do Psychology & Social Sciences. No idea what I want to do after though!

Are you having to start thinking about uni at all?

Hope you've been well, really sorry about the delayed replies.. I'm a pain, but hope you understand about the busyness..

Hey!

Russia is brilliant! I actually love it; I read the Communist Manifesto (as a bit of background reading too), which was good. Thankfully, I didn't get lured into the belief that Communism is the way forward, but interesting none-the-less!

As for mocks, I don't have any. I think it's due to the fact that in all of my subjects (and I'm guessing all other subjects), that we're no where near completion of the courses... And May is fast approaching!

Manchester? Ahh, I know someone from my work who goes there, if I remember correctly he's doing a Business course or something!

As for me, well, I've always wanted to go to Brighton, and I've looked up Sussex Uni, and they do a Contemporary History and Politics course, which I really want to do! My plans of becoming a Forensic Scientist have ceased since realising how crap I am in Chemistry and Biology! Plus, I much prefer History!

Yeah, that's fine! I know exactly what you mean! I keep coming home and just sleeping... Which is not like me at all!
Well best of luck with the Mocks!

Hahaha 'The Communist Manifesto' - background reading!
Goodness me, you'll do well this year

I attempted to read 'Stalin: A Biography', then realised I didn't have the time or the patience, despite it being a fascinating area to study. Good to hear you're enjoying it - Russia is amazing. Not too wild over the Tudors anymore though Although the BBC series I quite enjoy

I know - hasn't this year just gone mega fast?! It seems to just get faster every year.. I sort of wish it'd slow down and give me some time to breathe!

I've replied now, so if I manage the grades it'll definitely be Manchester. Cannot believe I'll be at uni this september, it's too scary for words!

Wow, that course sounds like it'd be really interesting!
Haha, history is much better than science - I'd take it any day!

Thank you, they're over now - had my last one today, yay! I know what you mean, I've been mega tired recently as well.. Sleep is good!

The "Communist Manifesto" sounds a lot more than what it is... It's really short actually. But a really good read; it's useful when trying to compare or at least explain Marxism and how Lenin and Stalin did (or did not) follow it.

Ahh, this year has gone way too fast! It's horrible, and although my mind knows where I am, the rest of me can't catch-up... So I'm not feeling that whole bodily desire to want to do anything (even school-work).

Good luck with Manchester! Just think, in a couple of months you'll be a proper "Student". Personally, I cannot wait until I can move away!

Good Luck with the Mocks too, I'm sure you'll do well!

I got my January exams back last week, I got a C in Biology (which is my target/expected grade, but still not good enough for my likings), and a D in Chemistry; which admittedly, was better than what I had pre-empted, but far worse than what I should be able to achieve. So I'll be re-sitting those in the Summer... Which will be interesting!

Also, I don't know if I've told you yet, but in April I'm off to Madrid for a week. Probably the worst timing ever with exams and that, but it's going to be brilliant. I'm off with a bunch of mates... So it'll be a week of un-parented fun!

I've begun to look at Uni's now. It's so bloody complicated, like trying to work out which is the best! Although I want to go to Sussex - ahh, living in Brighton would be amazing!

Ahh yes, I know that feeling!
I seriously cannot be arsed to do anything at the moment. It doesn't help that in a a couple of my subjects we haven't finished the courses yet... So it still feels like I'm half way through, and that it's impossible to have exams in nine days time!

Madrid was brilliant thanks!
See the Spanish don't care about anything, so going clubbing, and obtaining alcohol was as easy as buying a loaf of bread! But it was a nice break to have... Although I did find myself nearly going insane by the end of the week.
You know when you just spend too much time with people?

Other than that, I'm good thanks!
I'm just looking forward to the exams being over! Also, for reasons best-be-known to my odd mind, I put myself up for nomination for Head Girl at my School. I had to make a speech in front of my whole year group yesterday, which was a far from pleasant experience. I'll find out the result of the teacher and student vote next Monday!

I hope you're doing well! And good luck with the exams too!

I know what you mean!
You should really go & look at places though, I didn't go to see many of mine until it was too late - I was lucky I liked Manchester when I saw it!!

How were your exams?? Did they go as well as you'd hoped?

Haha, I know what you mean! Must have been amazing though, would love a holiday right now. Although instead I have to get an actual real job over the summer. Blah.. Morissons here I come. aha

How did the Head Girl thing go?? Did you get it?

Exams are ok - still have two more, will be over next friday yay! Been so stressful.. yours are over now, right?

I went to Sussex yesterday! My Mum wasn't impressed "It's too big", "It looks odd", "There are too many people". My Grandad who drove me down there was less than happy about spending the day in Brighton. He's not very cultured!

Exams... Hmm, I think they were alright. I mean, I felt quite confident and happy when I had completed them; and I'm just trying to maintain a positive outlook. Well, at least not doubt myself too much. We'll see though!

How about your exams?

Lol, I'm job hunting too. I'm hoping to get a place in Costa - that way I can live off of Chocolate Frescato's all summer (which are amazing if you've never had one).

As for the Head Girl thing, sadly I didn't. But it's not the end of the world!

All of mine were done on Monday, and then I went back to School on Tuesday and started Year 13! It's been crazy, and I've had no breaks! My first exam was on the first day of Study Leave, and my last exam was on the Last Day of Study Leave!

Good luck with the rest of yours!

Samantha.
