I guess it's a way of showing someone that you like what they are doing. You can give everyone 1 badge - you have infinite. When you get a certain amount of Llamas they will transform - like in a super llama. You can also sometimes trade them for points which equal currency here on DA.

PS: Next time reply to one of my comments or send me a note, i saw your question just because i was on your profile. I would get a notification in the forementioned cases
