I've been drawing all my life, but more recently I'm taking it more seriously. I just got accepted into the art school of my dreams, so I will hopefully be improving quite a bit while I try to make a bit of money with my commissions to help pay off my student loans.

btw...I couldn't help but notice your comments about public schooling.... I was private schooled through second grade, public schooled after that until I finished sixth grade, and then from seventh grade to graduation I was homeschooled. I loved my homeschool years; it's now been five years since my high school graduation. My opinion of public schooling was bad when I was in the public school system, and it's just been becoming worse. :/ My brother was enrolled for one year and endured a ton of bullying and had a lot of teachers who just didn't care. I don't actually think there are that many people who have enjoyed being enrolled in a public school...

Like... I had some gaps I had to fill in my education, but I was still able to get a GED effortlessly without having to deal with the bullying of public school. It's just... ugh. Some are good, if you live in a rich neighborhood, but it can be so nasty. There's gotta be a better solution

So glad you were able to get your GED and get it effortlessly - good job on that!! :) (Smile) I've heard...and seen..that a good solution is for every adult in the school to be a caring adult... I basically shadowed a school social worker at a smaller school during like 8-10 school visits for a college class I took last semester (can't remember the exact number but it was once a week for a couple months) and she cared so much about the students - her care for the students shown through in every word she said and honestly in everything she did. It made such a difference in the school culture; the public school I attended through the seventh grade has now become over-ridden with bullying (also a smaller school) but at this other school, there didn't seem to be half as much of it going around. Unfortunately, I'm sure there are teachers in about every school that really don't care that much for the students (as a group) or don't care for all the students (on an individual basis) as they should. To me, it's a good solution but I'm not sure I'll ever see it happen - especially in a large number of schools.

That's so nice! It's good that there are still some teachers out there that actually care about their students. I've seen so many that just look like they've been burned out by years of teaching and don't actually care for their students anymore

A whole lot of the teachers I've seen, too, seem to be burned out. Some of them stay in it for the paycheck, I guess. In today's schools it's so easy to get burned out - one friend of mine only taught a few years and then left teaching to find other work. I hate to think how many teachers in the public schools now will only be able to teach for 2-3 years before becoming burned out. It doesn't make teaching sound like that great of a job. :( (Sad)
