The first deviation I dare submitting here will be my first step into artist turf.
This is one of the turning points of my life. During years and years and years, all I've been doing was to just drool over artworks and awesome drawings. But now I want to create my own art. I want to at least have some artistic fluency. Because the language of the art is universal, and it doesn't matters if you speak Japanese, German, Spanish or even Chuvashian: you can still understand it.
Jean Paul Sartre, one of the most awesome philosophers, around 1934, said that the Man is not born with an essence. We are born blank, and we create our essence as we live. You are always an incomplete person, that keeps completing itself as you do stuff and decide, and once you die, you have become a complete person.
Now, what does all that philosphical bullshit has to do with what I'm doing? Simple. I, right now, am changing my essence. I don't wanna be a complete computer engineer. I want to be a computer engineer that knows about art. Some sort of a jack of all trades. An artist, and an engineer.
The biggest problem I have to face is this: I have a terribly hard time drawing.
Maybe it's because of an 11 year long artist's block I had since I was 8. I just stopped drawing, and I thought it was because I didn't had any creativity or imagination. I did, only thing is, I was blocked. The art class was a torture: it was 45 minutes long, and out of these 45 minutes, I would spend 20 or 30 minutes thinking about what could I draw. First, because nothing really came into my mind. Then my artistic muscle started to weaken, and I would dump an idea because drawing it was way too complex.
Maybe it's because I'm too much of an engineer. I can understand perfectly a book about programming or computers, or if I don't, I can after a little bit of analysis. Hell, I can even understand my calculus book at the second try, and I even managed to remember l'Hôpital's rule before we even studied it. But if you make me read something about philosophy, I end up closing the book and thinking about what kind of substance did the writer introduced into his system while writing the book.
Or maybe it's because I was listening too much to my brother. That asshole thinks drawing is for geeks, that the only thing that matters is the guitar because guitar attracts girls, that anything that doesn't attracts girls or cash is not worth it, and that I will never get a girlfriend. Boo hoo, poor idiot. He has nothing better to do than inflating his ego with something as frivolous as being considered sexy by them girls. And the only thing that keeps me from having a girlfriend, is that the girl I like lives 150 km away from Guadalajara.
Anyway, now that I've taken the first step, it's now time to take the second. I just started by copying a FN Herstal F2000 rifle, just to improve my almost nonexisting artistic skills. I could feel how tough it was just to get a decent copy of a machine, something I find it much easier drawing. I could feel how my artistic self was taking over, and though it didn't even knew what to do (because my engineer self usually takes over), I managed to let it go, to release it from the tyrannic pressure of my programming brain.
So, please, if you think something is lame and is not worth showing up here, remember: I am an aspiring artist, and if you dare saying I'm a dickhead, I will personally come over to your house, drop a bottle of sugar mixed with nitric acid, and see your house blowing up in searing flames.
