I read "Dying like a dog" today and could not stay silent. This probably belongs in the comments of that beautiful deviation, but the reason why I'm writing this is not to talk about the story. Toby wrote in a way I rarely see on deviantart. Despite having only a few favorites, I hope you and Toby both realize just how much of a gem it was to read. The imagery was beautiful and the tone was perfect for the piece; sure, it had some rough patches, but everything could always have a bit more editing. (Plus, looking around, I realized an edited version was uploaded, and all my suggestions were fixed.) My only regret is not finding this piece sooner--I wish I could've told him how much it touched me.
I've known people with cancer, but I think a lot of people don't realize the gravity of it until it kills someone. Toby was an amazing writer and a stronger person. With the one deviation I saw of him, that one small snippet of his life, I can tell that much.
It felt wrong to just favorite the piece and not say anything. So I'm hear to say my condolences, and to thank you for not taking the story down. It was truly a beautiful read, and even though he's gone, I wanted to let you know he's still touching people, even today.

I am really sorry to hear about Toby. I truly am. I spoke to him in the past and he gave me courage and inspiration to be strong. I hope you are being strong. I cannot imagine the pain you are going through, losing a dear friend. Stay strong.

Pourrait etre mieux. Chaque jour est toujours difficile, mais a ce moment c'est pire parce que c'est vraiment trop chaud pour moi ici en France, c'etait 39 degré hier et la journée avant. La chaleur me donne mal a la tete.

Je suis suis bon. J'ai écrit deux exame et fini l'ecole auhourd'hui. J'ai obtenu 88% a la classe de français! C'est bon, c'est bon, c'est trés vachement bien! Pendant ce temps, il y a beaucoup des chose je veux faire.

Formidable! T'as fini l'ecole deja! Je finis en France le 30, je suis triste de partir mais je pense que ca va parce que je suis un peu fragile et loin de mes copains qui savent tout qui s'est passé. J'ai meme pas dit a la famille avec qui j'habite de Henri ni Toby, donc je dois essayer d'etre heureuse tout le temps quand en fait, je suis vraiment cassée dedans. Surtout parce que Henri est allé plusieurs temps pour me chercher ici, donc quelquesfois les enfants demande "ou est ton petit copain aujourd'hui?" comme une blague, les parents disent rien parce qu'ils pensent que la relation est teminée, mais c'est pas de tout ca, en realité. Mais je dit rien.
A ce moment, j'essaie de finir le romain que j'etais en train d'ecrire avec Toby. Je veux le finir avant Septembre, mais apres avoir fini en France, je vais aller au sud d'angleterre pour travailler, 48 heures par semaine pour 5 semaine, je pense qu'il y aurait pas le temps pour ecrire. Donc je sais pas si ce sera possible, mais je commence mon derniere année d'université en Septembre, donc je vais avoir beaucoup de travail.
Je fait aussi un stage pour une maison d'edition a ce moment, donc je suis occupée avec ca, et aujourd'hui j'etais offerte la position d'editor a une magazine en ligne. Mon ecriture suffre a ce moment, j'ai pas la passion d'avant, mais j'espere qu'il va revient.
Et toi? Tu ecris quoi a ce moment?

Oh, right now I'm working on all sorts of exciting things. Mainly I'm working on a series called, "Cup Fiction." It's written in an episodic way and it revolves around four men named Cups, West, Friend and Hooky. It came about with the help of my friend. So I suppose that's exciting enough for the while. Otherwise I'm just writing critiques and random mashes of items.
