Ha, well you've probably heard this before, but it is a lot of practice.
A lot of the techniques, like the black lines on Iron Man I originally started to do with a real pen and crosshatching.
I also use a wacom tablet and you can mess around with the settings to you get something you like

I hear ya. It took me years to be comfortable with it. At first I rarely used it, but started to use it more in illustrator. It was way down the road before I started to draw and actually like to paint and draw in photoshop and what not
