I look forward to seeing what else you draw.
Your use of colours and the way you draw hair is amazing. Cx

Your grudging apology is sorta accepted as you've not really given me a reason to have a lot of faith in you. (Meetings that go wrong right off the bat can be rather shaky. That and I'm rather distrusting of people in general.)

Why're you so hung up on the over-sexualized art, though?
π: 0 β©: 1
ElvinGearMaster In reply to TheGreatTorotheKing [2017-07-03 02:30:16 +0000 UTC]
Because it's gross. Because it's demeaning. Because it makes me and a lot of others uncomfortable. Because it's been drawn over and over and over and over. Because it proves a point that we're just seen as things to be sexualised and ogled at, that that's all we're good for. That the only good things about us is our bodies, and only as long as you can stare at it.
Like, I get that you spent four years making this 3d crayon sculpture, but couldn't you have drawn something else than a naked sexualised woman?

Look at my gallery, that I've recently gotten off the ground. Look at how delicious the drawings I've made are, and how many views and favorites they've gotten. I take pride in how I morph the female form to my will, and a lot of other artists do the same. What's wrong with showing our appreciation for the parts of the female body we love?
π: 0 β©: 1
ElvinGearMaster In reply to TheGreatTorotheKing [2017-07-03 12:54:03 +0000 UTC]
"What's wrong with showing appreciation for the parts of the female body we love?" Well, how about the fact that's all a lot of people see us as. And most likely by extension, believe you see us this way as well, wether it's the truth or not.
Art like this that almost never draws a woman in a normal way to appreciate the form and the beauty of it, well,Β it's demeaning to us. And at the same time, very funny. Sickeningly funny and intriguing.
Do you know what our reactions are, more often than not? "Has this artist ever seen a real woman?" Not naked, just out on the street, passing by normally during the day. "Do they understand how gravity works?" "They need to go get some basic anatomy lessons, draw from real life for once." "They are going to be so disappointed when they see an actual woman."
Artist's like you are a laughing stock, especially amongst us artists who like proper anatomy, I kid you not. Because there is exaggeration in style, and then drawings that look like an amateur drew them and never bothered with actual anatomy lessons.
But this can be fine, in moderation, everyone has their own tastes and what they find desirable. ButΒ it's never in moderation.
Ever picked up a comic book? Yea, very rarely are the women drawn so that they look like they're actually fighting. They're sexualised in defeat, their bodes warped and twisted so that they should be in a hospital and seeing a chiropractor. They're just porn books in disguise. (One artist actually traces directly from porn and it's glaringly obvious. Professional my arse.)
To quote a friend of mine: Little girls shouldn't have to be looking at sexualized women, and thinking that's what they have to live up to in order to be seen as a "real woman".
The damaging effect of this is little girls grow up seeing these images and then start to worry. They start to think their bodies the way they are will never be good enough or considered beautiful. Their stomachs aren't perfectly flat or their waists aren't the size of their ankles, because hey, organs. Or that their breasts are too small to be considered proper breasts.
I met a girl, who's name I won't share, at my tutorials for my end of the year exams last year while we were waiting for it to begin. She had starved herself because she thought she wasn't skinny enough and wanted to look like the women she saw in books. It was a wonder she was there, because she had to be hospitalised a week before. Her body was starting to eat her brain. (The fat is always used last. First it's the muscles, then the organs and then the fat.)
She still swayed when she walked, she still looked near a skeleton despite the treatments and proper food she was eating. I could touch my fingers around her wrist, my fingers were resting on top of each other. You could see her ulna and radius.
But she was brilliant, quick and sharp despite the things she had gone through. She answered every single question in our science tutorials correct and had more to add. She even corrected the teacher on her mistake. Without ever taking her book out, she worked from memory.
Do you get it? This wonderful girl with a mind of gold ignored that so much, because she didn't look like the "perfect" woman. (I have no doubt that she is doing better now as she was afraid of dying, and is looking beautiful just the way she is.)
This is what happens when things like what you draw is constant and all that there is. Some are annoyed, some are angry and some think it's what a real woman should look like. We all react different, but there are enough people in the world that react like that girl.
If all this doesn't make you stop in your tracks and at least consider my words, then I don't know how I can make you understand.

TheGreatTorotheKing In reply to ElvinGearMaster [2017-07-03 16:51:35 +0000 UTC]
Hmm... No. Sorry, but it doesn't. I'm going to keep drawing my girls the way I want to, if that's okay with you.
π: 0 β©: 1
ElvinGearMaster In reply to TheGreatTorotheKing [2017-07-03 17:08:35 +0000 UTC]
I cannot force you not to. But I do hope you take my words to heart, understand why I commented what I did, and don't do what you did to me when we first met with others. (Within boundaries of course, I'm all for self defence but not unnecessary fighting.)
And... Consider your apology fully accepted. I'm thankful you chose to listen to my side and didn't just call me names or yelled at me.

My stomach disagreed with you, then I had to exercise with conviction. Just kidding, I mostly did stuff that works on the core muscles to help me in karate. Like planking. And pushups. And crying. And more pushups.
(Hear hear. Once again, from a damn late reply. We're off to a great start!)
(Art history is much more important than Deviantart though. Did you make it?)
