Up to date as in finished reading it? If so, then how'd you like beastality part?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

FrayedFire In reply to jdubya770777 [2011-04-18 05:41:20 +0000 UTC]

I wouldn't really consider that bestiality, honestly, because it wasn't really sexual.

It was more of a "Aw, that's kinda cute..."

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

jdubya770777 In reply to FrayedFire [2011-04-18 09:21:37 +0000 UTC]

What? 0.o The kid open mouthed kissed his dog after the both of them gazed deeply into each others eyes. I'm gonna overlook that "aw cute" remark. Point is: that one frame scuttled the entire comic and decimated what little credibility DCS had left (liek "it" ever had any to begin with).

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

FrayedFire In reply to jdubya770777 [2011-04-18 14:04:31 +0000 UTC]

Well if that's your opinion, that's fine... you don't have to read it.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

jdubya770777 In reply to FrayedFire [2011-04-19 02:03:05 +0000 UTC]

Ummm, I did read it. I've read pretty much everything DCS has come out with (and what has been seen can't be unseen). Also, it's not an opinion -it's fact. DCS lost alotta fans with Rainedog and that one frame drew such negative attention (and unbelievable shitstorm) resulting in her "graphic novel in progess" becoming (more or less) defunct. For many, that was the last straw.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

FrayedFire In reply to jdubya770777 [2011-04-19 02:14:32 +0000 UTC]

Are you trying to convince me that I shouldn't read her comics, because of one frame that upset some people?

"I don't like this," is not a fact. It is an opinion.

I fail to see why you are shoving your dislike of something down my throat, completely unprovoked.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

jdubya770777 In reply to FrayedFire [2011-04-19 02:38:47 +0000 UTC]

Who said I'm convincing you of anything? I just thought I'd set the record straight. Clearly, you didn't see anything controversial about "that one" frame, but many did; therefore, the rapid decline in her fanbase (fact, not opinion). This is just a friendly FYI. I'm not putting anything down your throat (unless you'd like me to )

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

FrayedFire In reply to jdubya770777 [2011-04-19 03:17:05 +0000 UTC]

You were insinuating that there was an issue that the controversial aspect of that frame did not bother me... it came across as "this is horrible, how can you like this, what's wrong with you?" rather than "well, I personally didn't like it..."

And no thanks... Not really my style. >.<

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

jdubya770777 In reply to FrayedFire [2011-04-20 01:03:49 +0000 UTC]

It appears you made an assumption, even though I said I'd "overlook" your apparent dismissal (damned near endorsement)of the controversy pertaining to "that one frame." But I guess while were on the subject, if indeed DCS made an overt advocation of zoophilia/beastiality in Rainedog (or any of his/her/whatever's work) what response would you have then, just for the sake of interest?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

FrayedFire In reply to jdubya770777 [2011-04-20 03:23:47 +0000 UTC]

See, that statement is blatantly saying you disapprove of my opinion.

Now, as for your question... Most likely, I would re-categorize it as adult-directed material, rather than something for younger audience, and treat it as such.

I do not agree with real-life zoophilia, but this is not real life, nor graphic and so I find nothing wrong with it.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

jdubya770777 In reply to FrayedFire [2011-04-21 02:12:21 +0000 UTC]

On the contrary, attempting to understand your opinion is not akin to disapproving of it. Only when I fully understand your position can I then seek to approve/disapprove of your opinion, and the process invariably involves questioning your standpoint. And if the evidence I present you with causes you to rethink your opinion...well, I'll leave that up to you.

Glad to hear you don't actally condone IRL zoophilia, but your reasoning is problematic. Correct me if I'm wrong, but the logic you seem to harbour is that there's no harm with taboo subjects being presented in art. By that logic, someone could draw an image of child abuse, and even if no real child is harmed in such a senario, what say you to such a form of "art" (if it could be called that)?

FrayedFire In reply to jdubya770777 [2011-04-21 02:45:10 +0000 UTC]

I would like to know why you seek me out to debate with... Your account appears to be specifically designed to (forgive the term, because you are very well spoken) troll people. Mostly unrelated to our current conversation, I am aware of this, just an observation...

My opinion is pretty secure. If I can withstand people outright disapproving of being Heinleinian in my views, and actively trying to change the was I dress/act... I'm just wondering why you are questioning me...

If you're trying to tell me that this: [link] is not real art? It is a beautifully done piece in my opinion, and I see no issue with the fact that it has been drawn. It is designed to spark emotion, as most art is supposed to accomplish, and it has done so.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

jdubya770777 In reply to FrayedFire [2011-04-29 02:24:36 +0000 UTC]

Point 1 -Debate is healthy between two learned individuals, do you not agree?

Point 2 -If you are referring to the author Robert Heinlein then I must confess I'm not much of a sci-fi reader. Although, I did quickly read up on the author, so when you say "Heinleinian in [your] views," ummm...hmmm... in what way, I ask? How's this: ever read Oedipus Rex? There's an aspect of that Sophoclean Tragedy that induced me to vomit (I think you know the part)! If you are referring to Heinlein's views towards sexuality...WELL!!! That's where the debate really begins, I dare say!

Point 3 Hmmm...Okay, I'll give you that. Seems I should have been a little more clear earlier -my bad. When I said child abuse, I meant sexual abuse. Not necessarily rape, but since all sexual activity between an adult and a child constitutes as abuse, my query to you is how do you respond to depictions of it in art? What would your take be towards a painting of a man fondling a little boy's "boyhood?" (Afraid I can't cite an example, but it's stating the obvious that such art does exist).

Me, very well spoken? Thank you!

FrayedFire In reply to jdubya770777 [2011-04-29 04:39:26 +0000 UTC]

It's been a while. I figured you'd left. Now I have to try to remember what I was saying... You're welcome... I hope I don't seem too bad for debate... I know I ramble alot, (ADHD) but I'm certainly not uneducated.

Point 1: That's true, but it just seems... odd. I dunno. It matters not. I don't generally engage in debates, at it is not something I tend to seek out for enjoyment. *shrug* But you're fairly interesting, if somewhat... closed in your views? I do not know you, so I could be misconstruing... and you could just be playing devil's advocate for all I know.

Point 2: Aw, you are totally missing out. Seriously. There is SO MUCH good in those books. Ignoring the sexuality bit for the moment, I will give you a couple of my favourite quotes... *flips through books*

"An armed society is a polite society. Manners are good when one may have to back up his acts with his life." (this is totally ruined if you are one who is very much against guns)

"Don't handicap your children by making their lives easy."

You should like this one... "I never learned from a man who agreed with me."

"A human being should be able to change a diaper, plan an invasion, butcher a hog, conn a ship, design a building, write a sonnet, balance accounts, build a wall, set a bone, comfort the dying, take orders, give orders, cooperate, act alone, solve equations, analyze a new problem, pitch manure, program a computer, cook a tasty meal, fight efficiently, die gallantly. Specialization is for insects."

"Never underestimate the power of human stupidity."

"Men rarely (if ever) manage to dream up a god superior to themselves. Most gods have the manners and morals of a spoiled child."

Etc, etc. There are so many concepts that I believe are good to live by, I remember a line, keep your children short on pocket money, but long on hugs... Oh, and some funny things, like "Women and cats will do as they please, and men and dogs should relax and get used to it." That one always made me laugh.

Point 3: I can't say I've ever seen that, so I don't know how I would react... I mean, if the artist's intention is to evoke anger, then that's quite likely... but again, that would be blatantly sexual, which is not something I would tend to want to look at in the first place, "legal" or not... Somehow I think we lost the original debate here... I say drop it and move onto a new topic, cause I'm starting to feel bored and repetitive...

Such as--

More on Point 2: Sexuality. What would you like to start with?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

jdubya770777 In reply to FrayedFire [2011-05-02 21:39:58 +0000 UTC]

Point 1: "closed in my views?" I prefer to say conventional, but I guess that's a matter of individual perspective.

Point 2: Hey, I must agree, not bad! Very interesting indeed. Only issue I have is all those quotes were taken from a guy who...thought that...supported...well, let's move on to point 3!

Point 3: Perhaps you're right. The original topic actually centred around controversy, specifically around "that one questionable frame" DCS showed the world. If you're bored with that, sure we can move on! Just one more note, though, if DCS stirred controversy fully aware it would garner a strong reaction...WELL!!! That makes her/him one of the most interesting trolls I have ever encountered! -Second only to Chris Crocker.

So how do we lay to rest controversy and move on to sexuality? Lets start with taboo. -Seems like a related subject anyway)

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

FrayedFire In reply to jdubya770777 [2011-05-03 00:44:27 +0000 UTC]

Point 1: I'm pretty conventional in several parts of my life also, so yeah. *shrug*

Point 2: If you take out all the views on sexuality, there are still a lot of "life-points" of a sort that I agree with... but sure, moving on.

Point 3: It's impossible to make everyone happy, I'm sure everything has some sort of controversy. (Which is why I hate writing argument papers...)

Alright... Hmmm. What would most people consider taboo? Kink? Why do you think people have such a problem with kink?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

jdubya770777 In reply to FrayedFire [2011-05-04 22:23:42 +0000 UTC]

That depends. Mild forms of kink are not likely to bother most people, whereas someone taking a cheese-grater to their partner's genitalia most likely will offend a lot of people. This is a rather ambiguous topic anyway. I was thinking something more specific. Relating more to the points raised earlier. How about incest, beastiality, pedophilia, and trans-genderism! The real heavy players.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

FrayedFire In reply to jdubya770777 [2011-05-05 02:00:10 +0000 UTC]

I dunno about that. If someone says "I'm into bondage or BSDM or whatever..." then you get a lot of shit about it. What does it matter what someone enjoys in their private sex life, if it's mutually enjoyed? (A cheese grater to genetalia doesn't really offend me,though it does make me cringe slightly...)

Incest: Generally not good for the gene pool. However, cousins (assuming they aren't really close, such as mother's great-aunt's son kind of thing) I would see no issue with. Odd, yes, but there's really no harm there. Brother-sister relations are genetically unhealthy. And I honestly have yet to figure out how anyone could stand a sibling enough to have sex with them. XD

Beastiality: We already covered this... I don't condone it, but it's more of a "whatever floats your boat..."

Pedophilia: This is the first one that actually is physical/mental harm to another person. Now, technical pedophilia, such as a 19 year old dating a 16 or 17 year old, I see no issue with, but I would love to get inside the heads of some of the real pedophiles... I certainly am actively against pedophilia, because that will hurt people.

Transgender: I'm assuming you're mixing up transgender with transsexual, because transgender is simply self-identification, rather than physical traits. (I feel like a boy stuck in a girl's body) So what's the issue with transsexual?
