Thank you for the watch, General! Heard plenty of you from Sunjinjo There should be more written material from me soonish. Getting through this massive, maaassive writers block finally that has kept my writing to a minimum for the past three or so years.

Are you getting through it okay? Aw man, I didn't think it was block all those years. If you need help I'm here to offer tips ^^ It's plagued me often enough too.

Lamaohi In reply to Sunjinjo [2017-07-19 16:28:39 +0000 UTC]

It's a block that comes and goes, ebbing through my life like water flows through a canyon. Chipping through it now though but tips are appreciated! ^^

Sunjinjo In reply to Lamaohi [2017-07-19 21:38:00 +0000 UTC]

So poetic ^^ Hmm, it's true that a writer's block is part of life, I can attest to it. Though when I really put my back into it, I've always broken through. The simplest tip is to just go for it; open the document and stare at what's already there. You don't have to write. Don't put pressure on it. Perhaps seeing the last scene, rereading it and feeling it beckon, will tempt you to add just one more sentence as the scene automatically plays out just a little bit further in your mind's eye. Perhaps that sentence will be nonsensical, or not as good as what came before, but that won't matter. You've written one more sentence. Then see if another comes... usually, to my shock, removing the pressure results in perhaps a hundred words, or even more. And if they don't match up with what came before... well, that's what yet more rereading and rewriting is for. Keep fiddling until it feels right. Perfection isn't real, anyway.

For my more drastic blocks I've tried moving the spot where I write, usually taking a notebook to the forest or a random bench in the open fields where it's just me and the sky. Having something different to look at and let the mind truly wander does help. Sometimes I went to the forest to actually talk it out with the story and my characters. Sometimes an actual conversation leads to answers you wouldn't think of in other circumstances.

And recently I tried writing out those conversations, as I tend to think better through a keyboard. I just plop myself and my victim down in a setting I love - usually a mountaintop at sunset - and write out our conversation. Talking stuff out and feeling at peace with my characters is a load off. When I haven't written in a long time, I can feel Jinx breathing down my neck. Estell less so, but still... Clearing the air for myself helps me start over, because that is what it feels like after a long block.

Or, as I did more recently, I went back to my first-ever story. Really crappy, but writing for that setting with my current skills was an eyeopener. Seeing how much depth I can add to the simple world and characters was good for my confidence. And seeing the characters again was also really good Don't know if you have such a cherished place, but I can definitely recommend it. ^^

Lamaohi In reply to Sunjinjo [2017-07-30 19:03:30 +0000 UTC]

Just have at it and chip through it is the best method, yes. There are things tha help of course, but getting started is the thing that keeps the hammer hitting against the block.

Really need to get a laptop or a small keyboard for my tablet. That way I can really change location where I write. Not really possible with my tower pc.
And yes you mentioned the talking and acting things out with ones own characters. Have tried that and it does indeed help. Writing them out might help even more.

So yes, thank you. Will definitely try those. But now, let us get off the dear Generals profile page and continue this chat later at a different location.

Good grief it's been a while. I've been (barely) keeping up with all the art on this site as things in what some people refer to as "the real world" have constantly sought more of my time. Now that that has been sorted I'm ready to dive back into the art world.

I admit I haven't read the entire story yet but I fully intend to sit down at some point and just go right through the entire story so far, get overwhelmed by the awesomeness that is Overlady Jinx, and then brace myself for more of her tales.

Sunjinjo [2013-11-26 19:16:42 +0000 UTC]

Greetings ^^ I have two questions for you regarding Maraxus' audience as I'm doing it now (finally )... is Maraxus his first or last name and what is his full name? And with how many are his followers? Thanks!

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

GeneralMaraxus In reply to Sunjinjo [2013-11-27 18:38:48 +0000 UTC]

Full name would be General MaraxusΒ withΒ no surnameΒ but he is more often just addressed as Maraxus. In the Overlord world he has recruited every capable warrior he can find to oppose the Empire and prove himself worthy to join the Overlord, whoever the current one is.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Sunjinjo In reply to GeneralMaraxus [2013-11-27 19:30:41 +0000 UTC]

I see ^^ Thanks! Yeah, Jinx would ask how many men he's 'offering' her, so... I was guessing his legion was about 1500 men from the top of my head, am I somewhat on the right track? ^^ Also to perhaps use later, even in Shadow's Embrace... always good to have some people and their offspring in reserve standing by for Evil.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

GeneralMaraxus In reply to Sunjinjo [2013-11-28 18:43:37 +0000 UTC]

You are well on the right track in numbers ^^. I can guarantee that he would be more than willing to offer his legion to do anything for Jinx, from waging war, to polishing the armoury's entire inventory.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Sunjinjo In reply to GeneralMaraxus [2013-11-29 12:50:40 +0000 UTC]

Yay! Oh, I won't ask capable men to polish weaponry But I'm glad they would be up for battling Sayron's own forces as those two will be exchanging jabs for a few years, all in good fun. ^^

I'll be continuing his audience soon!

NagandEmerald In reply to GeneralMaraxus [2013-07-18 17:59:07 +0000 UTC]

*Nag* Okay, there are two theories as to who Kane actually is. Some say he is the biblical figure Cain, yet the Scrin say that he is an extraterrestrial lifeform. What if Cain was that extraterrestrial and Kane is only using a human form?

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

GeneralMaraxus In reply to NagandEmerald [2013-07-18 19:06:48 +0000 UTC]

Interesting, personally I believe that he was an alien that landed on Earth and was stuck. So he needed the SCRIN to arrive in order to use their technology to leave Earth hence why he used the Brotherhood and all the Tiberium technology.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

NagandEmerald In reply to GeneralMaraxus [2013-07-18 20:58:02 +0000 UTC]

*Nag* You make a compelling point, but he helped humanity through their various problems. Let's not forget that he said that "I found you all living in dirt huts!".

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

GeneralMaraxus In reply to NagandEmerald [2013-07-19 16:30:44 +0000 UTC]

Yes but he needed humanity to evolve in order for their technology to grow so he could accelerate the Tiberium growth to attract the SCRIN to earth

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

NagandEmerald In reply to GeneralMaraxus [2013-07-19 16:33:34 +0000 UTC]

*Nag* Another compelling point, but how did Red Alert tie into the Tiberium Universe?

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

GeneralMaraxus In reply to NagandEmerald [2013-07-19 16:38:09 +0000 UTC]

That is a good point, we seen him as the advisor to Stalin before the end of Red Alert where he predicts the rise of the Brotherhood. I am guessing that when the Allies used their Time Machine it created 2 parallel worlds. One Red Alert, the other Tiberium

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

NagandEmerald In reply to GeneralMaraxus [2013-07-19 16:43:21 +0000 UTC]

*Nag* And what would've happened if Yuri met with Kane?

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

GeneralMaraxus In reply to NagandEmerald [2013-07-19 16:44:42 +0000 UTC]

They would probably either kill each other... or take over the world with mind control and tiberium weaponry. But Yuri would see Kane as a threat and try to have him killed eventually.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

NagandEmerald In reply to GeneralMaraxus [2013-07-19 16:46:53 +0000 UTC]

*Nag* I find that Yuri's superior intellect, coupled with the fact that he has telekinetic abilities, he'd probably mind control Kane before he had the chance to double-cross him.
