I gotta ask real quick , but in your comic , is that all inked ? Β Or do you have a computer program that has different brushes with that pattern or allows you to lay them over an image ? Β Also , if you don't mind my questions overly much : how are your lines so accurate and straight in an exact pattern ? Β It's honestly phenominal ! Β Your composition is clearly well planned out , proportions are incredibly well done , and the movement of characters and textures of objects are done beautifully ! Β There's even slight orange - Β yellow tints throughout the mostly black and white medium which works perfectly with the style ! Β How u do diiiiis ! Β

Goodness, I'm so flattered to see someone so curious about my comic-making process; I really appreciate it! Now then...
Firstly, no, not everything is done in ink. I ink as much as I can reasonably handle on paper and then do everything else on the computer, which honestly varies from page to page. Here are the plain inks for pages 12 and 21 of Chapter 1 to give you a better idea of what I might do on paper and what I might save for later. I use Paint Tool SAI, Medibang Paint Pro, and Photoshop (an old-as-dirt CS2 to be precise) for pretty much everything digital, with Medibang being the one I use most because it lets me apply all kinds of patterns on the pages, like you described.
Second, I'm not sure if I'm at liberty to give advice on this, but I'd say the key to doing consistent patterns and lines is to get it all down to muscle memory by just... doing it a lot. I'm still working on this skill and I've been told by more experienced artists that it's just something that takes years to master, but that's the basic gist of it from what I can tell. I'm very glad you like the way I do it, in any case!
Lastly, thank you so much! When I first started working on Battle Patrol (and even now, to be honest) I really wasn't sure what direction to go with it so I emulated other artists that I like. I really didn't have too much planned out beforehand besides a general idea for the plot, some basic character concepts, and a script & storyboards for the first chapter, and I just went from there. I've since gotten a much better feel for a lot of the stuff you listed just by making pages and learning from my shortcomings in each one, and I'm still looking to get better as time goes on!
As for the color thing, I actually figured out how to do that by complete accident, haha. I thought the finished greyscale pages looked bland, so I experimented with different ways to make them "pop" a little more, and ended up finding their current look by fooling around with some layer modes in Photoshop. I also thought that looked a bit too bland, so I started adding white highlights to the colorized pages. I don't know if I'll keep that look indefinitely or try to find something more vibrant, but I think it works for now.
