Yeah, there is just so much on this deviantart website...I mean, I've looked up art for a long time on this site viewing artist's work, however I haven't made an account until recently. 

One question I have is what are deviantart points, and what are badges? How do I use these things (if they're supposed to be used)?

Ahh, I was the same;;. I loved looking at different comics and waiting for the next chapter, wanting to comment but couldn't because I was little and scared to make an account. Glad I did though!

DeviantArt points are points you can give and buy commissions from other people, donate to someone, or buy something for someone! If you receive points, you can change a certain amount into real money. It's just for if you're an artist who is making money off of this. You can also use it to buy art if it's on sale for points.
Badges are just, well, badges! They are there for decoration and fun to collect! They don't do much and if you don't like them, you can take them off your page

in the right, top corner of your profile page, there's a little icon that says, "Edit Page". above it, is your badges with llama badges! click the badges, and it should show all of the badges you own!
