Purple Plasma was done is Chaoscope, DNA was done in Gimp with the use of numerous paths and effects.

You have some interesting experiments here.
If there's one thing in general that I'd say could improve your work, it's time. Take a little more time with things and consider if there's anything else you can do to really make your work look finished.
