Yeah, as odd as it sounds, it seems the harder I try the worse the result... and the less I really worry or fret over something, the better the outcome.

I've done several different anime. I just can't find it all. LOL! I have some things with me here in Texas but the majority of it all is 284 miles north of me in rented storage space in Oklahoma. I was really big on (and I still am) Robotech, Gatchaman, Bubblegum Crisis, and Area 88 back in the day. I would like to bring back the anime style of the 80's and early 90's. The eyes these days are way too big and "cartoony". LOL!

Sure. What would you like to know?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

serealis In reply to Kryptoniteking [2008-03-31 11:26:30 +0000 UTC]

hehehe... well; do you ever apply the wraps yourself? if so, recommended tools and tips?

are they full wraps? what vinyl(s) are you using for the jobs/would you recommend more? (i know everyone raves about a few of 3M's controltac but i can't really print on it with my current printer attractively -- the ever-ancient gerber edge2 lol).

do you use templates or software(s) specific to wraps (like badwraps etc.) or go from photographs to set up your own template and hope hope hope?

...i wound up managing a sign shop during the day and in the evenings and weekends running another; i'm getting more and more people asking for vehicle graphics on vehicles with more and more goofy curves these days. i'm kind of in the debate if it's worth going off and spending either several hundred or a few thousand to get trained on doing vehicle wraps from 3M or oracal at this point (which would be further reasoning to push for an inkjet printer i've been wanting... roland versacamm or soljet pro iii; either way 54"; boss man tells me i'll get a new printer by may/june, but i still push because i'm pretty sure the same sort of thing happened to the guy who ran the sign shop before me).

...i think, for a start, that's sufficient questioning! hehehe. thanks in advance ^^

Kryptoniteking In reply to serealis [2008-04-01 02:54:10 +0000 UTC]

I do very little application myself. Less than 1%. Plus, I'm not trained to do so.

I'm doing partials and full wraps. The Controltac is pretty much what everyone wants. We've recently discovered, though, despite their "guarantee" on certain things (Clearview window vinyl) they're finding [good] excuses to not stand by the guarantee.

I use templates. Although, depending on the year model (before 1994 I think) there are none. So, I use a combination of templates, photos, and flat-out on-the-spot measuring. "Measure twice – Print once" is my motto. The best templates are from "Pro Vehicle Outlines" out of Canada. They were just bought out by "Mr. Clipart". I don't know what the quality is like after that but they're the best!

I really don't know much about most of the inkjet printers. I'm kind of new to the printing end of wraps. We use high-speed, high-end HP printers.

If your shop is really interested in doing wraps, by all means get the training! Get the equipment! It's become one of my employer's bread winner services! Plus, it's just damn kewl!

awesome ^^ thank you for the info!! i'd like to see what kind of economical support for wraps would be up in this area (kind of in the middle of greater minnesota, not a whole lot of city sort of stuff but travel would be fine anyhow...); i'd love to be doing them, i think it'd be more gratifying than typical signage (i do everything in the sign shop from start to finish; only rarely do i bring in minions to assist me when it's really busy...).

what sort of excuses does 3m make..?

but i suppose, i should get to work! ha! thanks again!!

I'm a motorsports fan! I've been to several Indy & NASCAR races here in Texas. I've been trying to catch a Red Bull Air Race but I always miss them when they're on. My goal is to one day go to the Reno Air Races.
