Thank you for the favorite and I would like to be your friend, I like how you describe yourself. People do not often realize how much they can learn from others if only they are willing to listen.

You're kidding? My sister lives in Riondel (across the lake from Nelson), and I'm a frequent visitor of the area. =] Best place on earth really..
Japan hey? That's quite the change.

Ha! Small world
Yeah, Nelson is a pretty neat place... I like Riondel too, some great hiking in the area
Annnnnd yeah... I'm finishing off a teaching contract here, but Japan is probably the farthest thing (culturally) from Nelson... but I like adventures

Judging by your photo collection, you adventure a lot! Do you plan to return to Canada?

Haha, I'm an amateur when it comes to travelling
But yeah, Canada is definitely where my roots are... I probably won't make it back until next summer however. Still, it's definitely where I intend to end up

Beautiful. I'm sort of at my infancy with travelling too. But I've got a taste of it and I'm wanting more!
I'm heading to Nelson this weekend; I'll say hello for you.

Awesome! I hope it greets you well... if you happen to stop by Oso Negro coffee shop, have some strong coffee for me!
Where do you want to travel? Any particular places catch your fancy?

dDaniella In reply to LiminalWinter [2014-07-10 13:59:40 +0000 UTC]
Oooh, I most certainly will have a cup for you! That's my coffee place of choice in town.
I think I want to visit China and Thailand next year. I'd also like to see Guatemala. I travelled to the Yukon last year as well, hoping to make a visit to Alaska; however, I didn't have enough time so Alaska is also on the list. I'm a big hiker too, so I'm pretty partial to any mountainous regions.
Where is your next travel adventure taking you? Any places you recommend?

LiminalWinter In reply to dDaniella [2014-07-11 00:11:24 +0000 UTC]
Eee! Now I'm getting all nostalgic, hahah
I think you've kind of nailed the places I want to go too... China and Thailand are both on my radar, but also the rest of SE Asia too, like Cambodia and Vietnam. I was thinking I'd like to find a place to study Muay Thai for 3-4 months solid. Just to see if I could, heh
And yeah! You're definitely after my own heart, I want to go to Alaska someday --- after being in Japan for almost a year, I'm *really* craving some wilderness. One of my grandparents actually homesteaded up there, so I'd love to see if I can find his cabin :3 How was the Yukon??
I think I'm probably heading to Australia next for a few months, do some fruit picking, replenish funds, but after that I haven't really planned too far ahead. Admittedly, I should probably get on that...
But for more localish adventures, since you seem like a mountain-girl, I recommend Mt. Loki behind Riondel, if you haven't done that one before. And the North Coast Trail on Vancouver Island is pretty epic and wild too... lots of critters.

You say your grandparents had a cabin in the Alaska? There's a great reason to check it out some day! Stumbling upon that would be pretty radical. I can't even imagine how beautiful it is in person. How huge everything is there.
The Yukon, not to mention northern BC, was packed full of beauty. Laird River Hot Springs was a gorgeous stop on the way to Yukon you should most definitely check out, and you really get a sense of how small you are when you reach the Yukon. So much land and so little people. It really was grand.
I admire your adventurous and nomadic plans. Sounds like you've been doing this a while. I think once my son is old enough to live on his own, I'd like to give that lifestyle an honest try. It's something I think about a lot and think I would treasure.
I haven't heard of Mt Loki, but I just phoned my sister and asked her about it. I might just make that into a plan this weekend when I arrive. Thanks!
I've been to the island before. It's pretty great there; mind you the ferry passes nowadays are outrageous.
All this travel talk.. I can't wait to get out of here tomorrow. Travel day!
Talk to you soon!

Ah, true, the ferries are ridonkulous!
I hope you had (or are having) an amazing time in the Kootenays though! From what I hear, quite hot there, so probably some good swimming?
I think I can only sort of grasp what you mean by the Yukon being so huge... but I love that feeling of being so small in the wake of wilderness. It is quite humbling. I live for moments like that, heh... I think it's why I love being up high, like on a mountain-top. It's the only place I really feel peaceful...
Depending on how old your son is, I bet you could still do some crazy adventuring.... I kind of wish my parents had been a bit more nomadic (although thinking back, as long as you go camping at least once in awhile, you're already a damn good parent, haha). If you're planning on Guatemala you'll have to brush up on your Spanish though Sabes? Hehe...
Anyway, I hope you enjoy your adventures in fairyland (ie. Nelson and surrounding area )

Well the Kootenays welcomed me back as usual. It was indeed a scorcher. 37 all weekend. I rooted myself into the lake for the most part. I think it was maybe too hot to do much else!
You made a good point about including your children in such a lifestyle. I think now that my son is 9, he appreciates the trips west, the camping sessions here and there, and weekends of travel and adventure he's experienced.
Oh, I believe Nelson said to say hi.

Oh man, that's almost too hot!! Sounds like you had a good time though, I'm glad you felt properly welcomed back. I will have to live vicariously through you for the time-being, haha
I think your son will appreciate it even more when he grows up - my fondest memories of childhood were camping in the forest or on a mountain (although, admittedly, now I feel a bit out of place when I have to live in cities)
Thanks for relaying the greeting from Nelson!
