haha - thanks. Admittedly not *too* alive now schools kicked in and its all heavy classes....but I shall try to pop up every now and then! I need to take the time and sit down to go through the new stuff you've been posting properly - never had enough time to do that yet, but it was quite interesting, some of the series you had there

I'm in my third university year right now - actually half through. I think it may take 5 years, and I intend to make the most of it - I think I may go back for a BFA after I finish BDes and work in the feild a bit....

It took me 8 years. 4 years for my art degree, 2 years for my education certification, and 2 years taking classes I didn't need, but was interested in.
I teach art now, which is fun, but I miss being the student and having professors tell me what I'm doing wrong. Maybe I'll go back for a MA, but I had better pay off my Bachelors first.

heh. Yeah. 5 years is probably what it'll take to get a BDes, and possibly 2-3 more for a BFA if I do that afterwards - one idea was to work as a designer to pay for the other degree - one of my proffs in printmaking did that, sounds like an awesome idea.
A masters - would be nice, I have considered it, but I think I may have to go somewhere else for that. I don't know how well studying abroad would work - I may know better in a few years, (its a long way off anyway) and I don't *have* to go somewhere else, I guess, just likely better to to get a broader experience.

I've talked to students who work as graphic designers to pay their way; just be careful, because some of them have been taken advantage of, (pay-scale wise), just because they are students. I worked any job I could get to pay my way, (washing others' laundry, cleaning fish tanks, landscaping, maid work, telephone marketing, stamp design, whatever I could get), and I was fortunate to get some scholarships too.
Seriously consider study abroad. I wish I had had the guts (and funds) to do it. It would have done me a world of good. I traveled abroad for a bit, but I should have gone longer.
A few years is closer than you think, and a lot can change in a year... I never expected to be where I am now, a few years ago.
Sorry, *laugh*, I'm preaching aren't I? The vacation just started here, so I'm still in "teacher-mode".

Its a long way off yet - I'm going to go to Europe for a few weeks as part of a design class and we're going around to all the studio's there as part of it - I'm keeping my ears peeled to see whats what while there, I think. I've been lucky to get a few scholarships too - if I keep the marks up I might be able to apply for one again next year hopefully.
Already bitten with the pay scale thing doing freelance work >< - but it wasn't huge, so I survived. I'm lucky I can live at home while going to school. It depends on a few things as to if/when/how long I'd go but a few years yet so there's time for me to plan closer to when I graduate.

Lucky! Enjoy Europe! I plan to go again in the future, but it is going to have to wait a few years...
Being able to live at home sure helps with expenses.

Hope to - I've never been, since Europe is.....not quite halfway around the globe, but not that close to Alberta, definitely. Maybe with all the travel cuts and deals going on it might not be as much (cross the fingers!)
Definitely does - makes sense since the university is not that far away by bus, only about 40 minutes tops -I'm very lucky I'm allowed to stay till done school.
After that, I'm out on the street. XD (nah - but it's encouraged I leave, and I doubt I'll be the 30 and living at home still type - want to have my own place)
