Real talk here, what do you make of the idea a Ocellus was originally a child of Chrysalis but adopted by her current parents?

BrutalityInc In reply to MagicMan001 [2020-02-13 23:37:54 +0000 UTC]
That... would be quite a shocking twist. But I suppose if done right it could be great narrative- and character-development potential.ย
That Tree of Harmony episode where her trial is to overcome her fear of being like the old Changelings and can't change by being literally turned into Chrysalis could be a huge hint. Perhaps she didn't know her true heritage consciously but subconsciously, and seeing this while reading her mind the Tree of Harmony decides to milk it for the challenging scenario the Tree put her through? Maybe also subtly set her down a path where when her True Nature finally manifested she would go on to become a good queen?

Yeah, I mean, that Iโd totally be onboard with, particularly if she herself doesnโt know and her adoptive parents never told her the truth.
But then, particular if weโd wanna bring this into the Codex Universe, it raises the issue of why? Why would Chrysalis abandon thus daughter but keep the rest?

BrutalityInc In reply to MagicMan001 [2020-02-14 00:23:16 +0000 UTC]
That is a good question. Maybe she was the product of a tryst with a what she considered โlowborn commonerโ and just wanted nothing to do with her, but also keep her close enough that if she somehow could find use for her she could bring Ocellus to her in a hurry. And naturally, she keeps it a secret from even her own children so no one could take advantage of it.
Of course, nothing rules out possible devious super-secret evil plans that involves something neither Ocellus or the Equestrians knows and even the Changeling Courts only suspects in excessive (but ultimately warranted) paranoia...

Hmm, yes, that would make sense. Which in fact reminds me? Would it have been another changeling drone mated with then? Because I do wonder how far the 'mate with non-changeling, and pick them up when they're a bit older' really goes, a generation or so down the royal lines. I just can't imagine a supremacist and narcissist like Chrysalis mating with a non-changeling and letting them be raised by anyone other than herself. I dunno, I just gotta wonder if the practice ends up fading out over time.
But yes, an objectifier like Chrysalis would undeniably treat Ocellus in that fashion; something to use and throw away at the quickest possibility.
The way I see it, going by your last paragraph, Ocellus was born with a far more innate magical power than any in her generation. A few in a generation sort of deal. Pretty much the 'high medichlorian count' deal. Chrysalis' secret police "kept an eye" on her, so-to-speak. She's got a thick file in a cabinet somewhere.
One would think Chrysalis would've kept her closer, reared and molded her in her image. But then again, this is Chrysalis, would she really risk raising a changeling whose power could well exceed her own? Of course not. No, better to keep her as what Frollo kept Quasimodo, that day she'd prove "of use" to her.
That time never came. However, for a calculating and routinely underestimated Pupa, who was Chrysalis' favorite and thus prior to many of her mother's darkest secrets, as she rises to power, she'll no doubt reach out to Ocellus. A warm, comforting hoof, a sympathetic ear. A friend.
Then comes the day Ocellus returns to her adoptive parents' home and is informed her mother has been kidnapped by a pack of hyenas...

Nothing really prevents it, so I suppose a sizeable fraction of these Royal Changelings could potentially be pure-born. It really depends on how creepy they find the idea of 'screwing with their own mortal children' (But hey, the Olympian Gods do that all the time...), though breeding with non-Changelings might have some positive utilitarian advantage, bringing in new traits, new cultures, new diversities and new ways which may contribute to the survival and prosperity of the Changeling civilization.ย
I see Lion King analogue!ย ย

That being said, โpure bornโ may not necessarily mean โkeep it in the familyโ as they say. I imagine a Hive Queen or King choosing a changeling in their hive who the deem worthy of breeding with them, say the head of the Guard, an-accomplished spy or warrior, or maybe just the damn hottest looking lol
Which is of course fair enough, just not gonna be in the eyes of a narcissistic cretin like Chrysalis.
Oh uhh... more like Attack of the Clones analogue there. ๐

โIt was just before dawn. They came out of nowhere. A hunting pack of hyenas. Your mother had gone out early, like she always did, to pick mushrooms. From the tracks, she was about halfway home when they took her.
Those hyenas walk on two legs..., but they're vicious, mindless Animals! Thirty of us went out after her. Four of us came back. I'd be with them, only... after I lost my leg I just couldn't fly anymore... until I heal. I don't want to give up on her, but she's been gone a month. There's little hope she's lasted this long.โ
โ
Also on a side note I mean yeah, Iโm sure Changeling Kings and Queens have taken consorts from the upper echelons of their hives, those they consider worthy to be given royal jelly and become royal.
I imagine Imagoโs father was a ripped captain of the guard.

Yeah, sorry, I think we just got mixed up because I thought you thought I meant them being 'pure' by breeding with other royal changelings in their family. Nah, I meant just them mating with other changelings, even though that would mean changeling nobles or guards at best or mere drones/workers at worst.

Again, that too is quite possible. Codex Equus entries leave plenty of room for free interpretations with just enough details for readers to speculate on.ย

Hey, friend, I am just curious now that the MLP FIM series is over, what do you think of Chrysalis' ultimate fate, and the implications this has on her children?
๐: 0 โฉ: 1
MagicMan001 In reply to BrutalityInc [2019-10-29 22:21:14 +0000 UTC]
Truth be told, I found it actually quite commendable. Herย fate, as well as Tirek and Cozy Glow's, was as fitting as they could have made it. There's just no way they could have pulled off a convincing redemption here, and the writers of MLP have really pulled out some far-fetched redemptionsย out their butts in recent years. And you know what, she went down defiant to the very end; she never faltered, she never tried to explain her actions away, she was rotten to the core, and it's a damn good thing the writers flat-out acknowledged that there are some people out there you simply are unable to help.
As for her kids, I mean, the Imago and Pupa base-types can still work if we're to assume they were born before the end of the series. The rest, they were kinda meant to exist as the mook army in the post G4 future. I'm afraid they're, well, snapped.
Btw,ย I came across this fine piece recentlyย

Nice pic!
And yeah, I agree on all points.
And boy what a punishment it would be. Have you ever heard of the White Room? It's basically weaponized total sensory deprivation as a form of torture. You're stuffed into an isolated, muffled pure white room, given white clothes and shoes that muffles your walking, given only water and white rice for food with no spice or side-dishes, and are generally isolated from any form of sensory input. One guy who got put into one was reduced to an amnesiac wreck who lost virtually his entire sense of self after 8 months. It's widely considered one of the worst tortures ever conceived by Humanity in terms of sheer psychological torment.ย
This is basically the first thing that came to my mind every time petrification is mentioned. And it would be worse; not only would your mind be stuck in an inanimate form, deprived of all sense and in utter darkness (because all your sensory organs had been turned to stone), you can't even freaking MOVE. And from what we heard, they had been stuck there for 15 to 25 years by the time Luster Dawn came by.
8 months in a white room was enough to reduce a man to near mindless insanity. Now imagine spending decades in utter, senseless, immobile darkness. Discord we could excuse, because he's a freaking god, but what about the three of them? Would there be anyone LEFT in there? Do we even WANT to know?
As for her children Well, you may never know. I might be interested in working them into the Codexverse, one way or another. They would work very well as villains...ย
