Welcome back!

When I started this account, I was a fresh-faced, thirty-year-old student at the Kubert School, just setting out on my journey to become a professional comic artist. Since graduating in 2013, I've been on a gradual, wonderful, at times difficult, climb to reach a level of sustainability in my chosen career.

At present, I’m by no means an elite artist. The top tier is nowhere in sight. I admire the folks who’ve made it up there, and I’m not jealous at all. Well… not much. But I’m grateful. A mix of persistence, preparation and luck has helped me get where I am - and that’s being able to sustain myself with only art.

And that’s pretty rad.

One of the practices that’s aided me on the road to stability has been experimentation. It’s a natural choice when you’re trying to find your footing in the art world. Try new things! As I’ve gotten my feet beneath me, I’ve found myself walking two parallel, yet very different paths. One of those is my traditional comic book art, and the other is a more severe, illustrative style.

My illustrative work has evolved out of life drawing and location drawing practices, focusing on shape, simplification, and close examination of the art-making thought process. This work has been a source of continued learning and inspiration for me, but has yet to find a home.

So I’m giving it a home here.

After school, I mostly left this account to the side. My efforts were focused on instagram and my personal website. Recently, I’ve felt a twinge of nostalgia for the deviant community, so I think it’s about time to come back and share. For the time being, I’ll leave all of my previous work up. I’ll attempt to organize it into a “Student Work” folder, for those interested in seeing the evolution from novice to professional. Everything new will land in the “Illustration” folder.
