I am very sorry...but I've been saying that since I got up this morning...and I've been cyber-smacked several times...
Anyway, though, my idea of freakish is that it can be a fairly cruel term, though that's just my personal experience. I have a hard time using it objectively. So you're right, how you define freakish is meaningful.

I don't think of freakish as a derogatory term. I prefer being abnormal to conforming to everone elses ideas of the norm. It's much more fun!

Well, abnormal is a fun word, no doubt about it. ^^ But it means that there's a problem, not that one is different. I prefer the term iconoclastic. Just that my best friend, who was homosexual, got called that on a regular basis, and so did I...I miss him, I sometimes wish he hadn't moved, but people were just so unkind to him. And....I talk too much.

I always believed that abnormal meant something was strange or wrong according to the standards of the general populace, which doesn't necessarily mean it really is wrong in many cases.
I guess some people feel more strongely about certain words than others.
People have called me a freak, a weirdo, and many other things, but I don't mind.
I used to take offense to things more easily, I don't know if that means I'm growing or becoming desensitized toward the human race.
I always try my best not to insult people, but sometimes word association differs from person to person (as we discussed before).

Perhaps it's because I'm a psychology student...^^ ::laughs:: Abnormal always meant something wrong from the healthy standpoint from me, and uniqueness should be healthy (intolerance isn't, naturally).
I don't think that the word freak is so much a problem with myself as it is with the way I've seen it used to describe people I'm close to. It has really hurt them in the past, even if it did not harm me.
I didn't think you were insulting me at all.^^ Though since I didn't know you, I couldn't be sure what you meant. There are some people who will say, "Oh, I'm a freak, there's something bad and wrong and sick about me. Rock on!" Because some people have no sense of self. I don't think that this is you at all, but I've met people like that before and they...are to be watched. ^^

Psychology is very interesting to study. Sometimes I read psychology books for fun (Of all the people I have read books by, I find Freud to be a very odd man). I like to learn more about how the mind works, perhaps so I can understand myself more fully.

I agree that it is quite interesting, though the emphasis put onto the science part- neurology, etc- is less interesting to me than the rest. I also intend to become a writer, so psychology is especially useful then.
And you know, I think Freud was referring to himself often, whether he realised it or not.

I think he realized it most of the time because he admitted in some of his writings that his main ideas were based on observations of himself (like the Oedipal complex).

::nods:: Though, despite the fact that many of his ideas were strange (to say the least) a lot of those basic themes have helped others, even if things were never so much about agression and desire as he envisioned. Still, you pass through dA and see how some of the Deviants act, and I can't help but think that for some people he was very right. ^^
