# About me

I'm a technical designer specializing in both art and computer programming with an advanced diploma in computer science, I'm currently doing Independent game development with a small team by the name of Evil Aliens. An example of a game we have been working on can be seen here: www.youtube.com/watch?v=SRuYdT...

I'm a huge fan of the Myst series and decided many years ago that I would attempt to re-build Myst island in my spare time from scratch back into 3D, in higher quality using the original 2D images stored on the CD as a reference. I've been practicing my artistic skills during the development but I still have a few things left to do before it's all finished though but all in good time.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

So I don't fill up everyone's comment boxes with thank you messages for favouring since I read that a lot of people find it annoying; I just want to say thanks to everyone who has favoured my art in this message box and I hope people enjoy my artwork. Feel free to leave your opinions including critique since I want my art to look as good as I can make it within my ability and your ideas and criticism may be very helpful. All in all it will make me a better artist in the process.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I haven't decided yet on how I should license my images of Myst Island; I'm thinking attribution: giving me credit with the allowance to use in personal projects but not for commercial use since it would violate the copyright of Cyan Worlds. Pretty much all my images at this time have my name watermarked over them as I wasn't sure if it might offend Cyan or cause legal issues otherwise, my work has actually been pulled down from the URU fan-art forum due to this possibility by the moderators considering the work too similar to the original game. I've asked their legal team about this but haven't received a response at this time since I would like other fans of Myst to be able to use my textures and images for their own projects (Non-Commercial of course).

Your hi-res Myst art is amazing! So much that I wanted to mention that I'm in the early planning stages of my own Myst indie game, with its own journals and Ages. Unfortunately, I'm only just starting to learn how to use Blender, so the only work to show for it is currently just drawings and text files. I do intend to send up some of that work to my page in due time.

Thanks so much, I'm glad you like the work I've done I still need a lot more practice with textures, normal maps and Maya to get a scene to look more real; my goal being close to matching Riven. It's awesome to see another creative mind working on their own Myst related project and I would love to see what you come up with! I hear great things about Blender and it can only get better with time as they add more features. I always found the design process extremely enjoyable and cathartic, writing notes and making drawings of what I wanted to make or to help me get an idea of how something needs to look and once you get that design into a 3D modelling software it just comes alive and makes the whole process worth it.

Unfortunately I'm better at drawing and writing than modeling, and, not helped by Asperger's, I lack much of the patience needed to do this game project alone. Plus, there's meant to be other characters in it, in no less than full-motion-video (Seriously, who would want a repeat of Myst V?).
I do have some examples of the lore that'll go into it, such as this: K'nehtis' letter to the Council (copy)
K'nehtis is basically a version of Atrus, except pure D'ni with a cross between Tesla and Leonardo Da Vinci, set on both making his paintings into Ages, and using his inventive talent to innovate D'ni. But as that letter says, it didn't exactly work out in the end when he thought humans had potential.
Moira is his Catherine, but also D'ni, as a poor sculptor who sang for a living. Marrying the inventor saved her life.

Ah I see, yeah that wouldn't help very much as things like that do require a lot of time and patience to get right. I certainly am better at modeling than I am at drawing but I do enjoy writing here and there. So your project's goal is to become a full motion video? You're really good at writing, I enjoyed reading that and I already like the guy hehe. Sounds pretty amazing actually, a hybrid of Tesla and Leonardo would make one talented and ingenious person, very reminiscent of Atrus for sure. I certainly adore how you came up with the idea for his paintings to be the ideas behind new ages. Are the painting themselves links? or do you mean he will write description books that describe the painting's world to become ages?

- My intent for this game is to hark back to the 90's prerendered type with live action characters in it, because my exposure to Unreal 4 and how you can't lock onto the puzzle you're working on made me grumble. I even considered getting two people who did excellent Myst series Let's Plays (Dilandau3000 and Shadyparadox) as voice actors, but that's way down the line.
- K'nehtis knows about the factor of Books only connecting to existing worlds, so he tries to get his Ages as close as possible to the paintings. His factory Age, so he says, was even influenced by the mountains you see from Er'Cana in URU.
Would you believe that my inspiration primarily comes from other Myst titles and their clones, along with a few obscure TV shows? One big game-wide puzzle is building an Ornthopter that looks like a steampunk variation of the Golden Condor, as shown here K'nehtis' flying machine
This one is a jab and an excuse for the "Talking through the panel" thing from Myst 1 Intra-Age Communicator
And these are the other two pieces of lore I wrote. Meeting with Atrus Kadish Encounter

Oh yeah the prerendered games were the best, would love to see more of that again
especially with live action characters. It sucks that you are having trouble in Unreal 4,
I wonder why you aren't able to do that. But yeah if you are lucky you could get them
to voice act in the future for you, would be neat to see that

So he's working on an age to match his painting that will be his factory? I do love steam
punk stuff, very Myst indeed. Sounds like you've had many inspirations and I do love how those
drawings. Yeah the talking through the panel was a bit of a cute gimmicky thing but I love that
you are coming up with an idea for why it was possible. I love the idea of an intra-age communicator
as that would be pretty useful and could have that crystal technology miniaturized for tuning

Right now I'm intending to present my completed first demo and a few files at Mysterium this weekend, and I hope by then, there'll be people who can help me with this project. Although I might be banking on that hope too much.
I actually have a modern CASIO keyboard at my house, and though I've neglected piano studies, I feel like I should do what Robyn did and test out some tracks, especially since one of the Ages is literally music-inspired and the goal is to make 6 huge automated instruments play something, Animusic-style. (like this, if you don't know what Animusic is: www.youtube.com/watch?v=vYQuf_… )
