Ah yes that happens way too often. In the hope of finding help, you reach out to somebody and they just slap your personal issues with convenient bs. All that's left after is regret. Certainly hurts when sensible pain gets invalidated. Sometimes all we need is one person that cares enough to listen and brainstorm with. That's not what I was asking for. You're being too vague so I asked for real instances where it has happened before (details of the situation, what you initially felt, and how it went wrong).

Given you used the term "everything" and "completely", at that frequency it shouldn't be too hard for you to describe some.

A while back, at the place that I work, we had a corporate visit (Two people who were pretty high up there in authority, you could say), and my co-workers and I worked our asses off just for them, but once they left, the store manager and the assistant manager came up to me, and said that all they (the two big bosses) saw me doing was "standing around". I genuinely believed that I showed that I'm a star employee, but once I was told what they thought, I was so angry, confused, and let down. That's the best example of me pumping myself with feelings of confidence, enthusiasm, and/or positivity, only to have all of those emotion(s) destroyed.

Okay because I don't really know you IRL there are two possibilities here: One is that you hadn't actually worked as hard/effective as you thought you did. Or Two, your bosses are some hard to please authorities with very high expectations // lying asshats. Stuff like these happen more often than we'd like sadly. This one in particular isn't and shouldn't be a life-changing situation. It's best if you don't think too much about it or if being undervalued is too upsetting for you, there's always the option to look for a new job where your hard work is acknowledged. Although for future reference, I suggest weighing your decision based on the salary and other environmental factors -- If it pays good, you love what you do, and you get along with your co-workers, it's best to ignore the opinions of your higher ups. After all we can't please everybody, and you don't see them everyday! On the other hand if everything else is also terrible, you really shouldn't stay.

Since it's 'a while back' I'm assuming this may no longer be an ongoing issue. If there's anything else you'd like to share I'm happy to listen.

It wasn't a life-crippling experience, just another very, very, very upsetting situation in which I pushed myself to please at least one person, only to be the fuck-up in the end. But I am glad that I don't have to try to show off to those pricks anymore. If I do, I guess that they'll see me doing some serious "standing around", since actual body-ruining work isn't enough; I don't get paid nor respected nearly enough to push myself to that extent.
