A long long time ago in a town far away, my two best friends and I were trying to come up with insulting names for one another, because that's what best friends do. My friend Christina became Christinerd, Cherie' was Cherietard, and I was dubbed Rebeccannoying. I made my first email account right around that time, and for lack of a better username I picked my current nickname. From then on, it's just stuck as my username for everything

That's cute. My best friend turned my name into Alexanderp once a long time ago, he rather enjoyed that.

Hello Rebecca. I sent you a question via note but I have a feeling the note system is terrible for people cause I often don't get replies. Is it easier to ask questions via comments? Hope to hear back.

Ohhh, thank goodness. It seems like my notes are always sketchy. I messaged almost 10 other people who do copic work and MLP and received nothing back so I presumed it was flaky. I found one color chart but it was 38 colors and gradients, even simplified it was alot. So if anything base colors or something to help me determine the right color would be nice. I've already tried in vain comparing colors between the mane six and the copic chart, but they're offshoot colors even for copic's massive library.

Well, I sent the note but it recommended a lot of colors o.o If you need me to be more specific, just let me know I'm sure I can shave it down, lol

I loved the list, its nice, narrow, and includes a good idea between each. If possible as well, I was curious to what colors you used for your mane six MLP drawing. Though I cant tell if for the gradient you used multiple colors or just colored over a few times to make it darker. I wish more people included the colors of copics they used for their sketches. X3

Well, at the time of my pony drawings I was pretty limited in colors, and there are actually better options than what I used. If you want a straight list of shades, these are what I'd recommend:
BV04: Rarity and Twi's hair
V12: Twi's coat
Y00: Fluttershy's coat, Applejack's hair
RV21: Fluttershy's hair, Pinky's coat
RV23: Pinky and Twi's hair, Dash's eyes
YR04: Applejack's coat
B01: Rainbow Dash's coat, Rarity Pinky and Fluttershy's eyes
C1: Shading Rarity
YG06: Applejack's eyes, Dash's hair
R24: Dash's red bits
E33: Applejack's hat
*V15: Purple stripes in Twi and Dash's mane
*YG41: Spike's belly
That would be the absolute minimal set you'd need to color the mane six, and you should also be able to do other characters as well. Those are the best recommendations I can make based off the markers I actually own, but that doesn't mean there aren't better ones. You might be able to find a slightly better pink for Pinky, for example. Also, I looked at those colors under full-spectrum lamps that are meant to have the same color as sunlight, so when you test these markers in the art store they will probably look somewhat different than what I'm seeing. If you regularly work under different light, they also might not look right. Just bear that in mind while you pick your colors
You can achieve the "gradient" effect by layering the marker enough times, although I prefer to use a different marker when possible. If you want high contrast and sharp lines, give the first coat of color some time to dry first. Otherwise, work quickly to get soft results. I encourage you to go multi-media as well; just be sure that your Copics are the first layer of media so you don't ruin the nibs. Also, don't be afraid to mix the marker colors. Twilight's hair is slightly more blue than Rarity's, so try putting a layer of B01 down on Twilight's hair before the purple to cool it down.
Also remember to use good paper with your new markers. I don't like printer paper because it's too thin, and sketch paper is too toothy and absorbent. You can get a giant pack of carstock from Wal*Mart, and not only will it last forever but it will be waaaaay easier to learn on and will prolong the life of your markers. I would also save all of your art in a safe place away from the sun, as sunlight can fade/alter Copic ink.
Happy drawing!

I couldn't seem to find a white only set of cardstock at Walmart but I did find some at Hobby Lobby. However it doesn't say if Paper Studio's brand is clay coated, as I hear the clay can damage the tips. Any insight?

I've never heard of clay-coated card stock, but my impression from some brief research is that such papers produce really high quality prints, and the package would be most likely to tell you because it's an extra feature. The best way is to ask the person at a store, and if Hobby Lobby can't help you, you could try a scrapbooking store where they will be more knowledgeable about papers and markers. Also, the cardstock I found at Wal*Mart was with the printing paper and stuff, not the craft section :3 It's Georgia Pacific brand, 150 sheets at a 110 lb weight. Don't feel shy about buying a higher quality paper though, and possibly even a larger size I use 11x14 sheets of Bristol board for really important drawings.

Curiously, i was wondering how you make the fadded look for farther away things in your pictures like wings and limbs and such. I've found that if i just eyedrop the background and paint over it the limb/ item looks blurry and fadded (not pleasent).

Unless it's painting, all of my traditional pictures are created by starting with the lightest shades and working my way to the dark values. For farther objects, that simply means they don't get as many dark layers. By controlling contrast, I'm hoping to control the viewer's attention and draw it away from background objects and onto the foreground. Does it work? Beats me, but I try anyway xD. If the figure is over a white background I tend to make the effect more pronounced, because white backgrounds flatten everything. For full out scenes, I not only lower the contrast but give the object a light brush of its compliment to tone down the saturation. I also try and make the line weight less dramatic. This helps it fade into the background. Unless the character was in a scene with a very thick, colored atmosphere, I wouldn't directly sample from the background.
