I just wish I knew how to emulate the Prime style, since it seems to be one of the two best mediums (High Moon having the other one) for blending complex and easy-to-track designs.

Well, I usually just start out drawing a normal human shape, and then start layering in more and more of the details as per the character sheets I have from work (some of them you can find on Jose Lopez's deviant page).
The designs in the show would be impossible to do in 2D animation... but at the same time, like you said, they're easy to track and identify unlike *cough* bayformers.

Oh, you mean designing one from scratch? Well... now you're getting into character design territory, and I'm not sure how good I am there.
I'd say, yeah, start with the basic shapes and silhouette you want, and then start figuring out ways to fit the pieces of the car onto it. The different approaches I've heard is that animation designers will start with the bot and figure that out, and the toy designers start with the car and figure out how to go from there.

I'm not sure if Jose has any tricks for designing the bots in his style, though. The one time I tried designing my own was when I wanted to make my own Prime styled Prowl... it wound up looking like the TFUniverse Prowl. 9_9;;

Okay. I already have a few ideas for how some of the car parts will be on the robot form (the driver section of the roof will be on his upper torso, but with the glass facing up, not down like on CJ).

Speaking of Jose, if you guys ever do the constructicons, check out a book called the Earthmover Encyclopedia. While it doesn't cover things like Cement Mixers and Cranes, it still is good for inspiration.
