There are two main categories within that genre; Investigation, and Simulation, with the addition of a thirdΒ variety that I personally refer to asΒ Hybrid, which is basically a combination of both main categories.
Ace Attorney is an example of a 'Hybrid Visual Novel'.

Is it really wrong to base something you care dearly about?

I talked to others and they say it's not bad at all and they based their characters on other characters on existing characters.

Brilliant. What that really means is that you've found a hug circle of people who are just as unoriginal as you. What, did they manage to remodel the cast of Street Fighter into Tiny Toons?

It's not like you're profiting from it.

It's not like basing something off popular culture means we're profiting them.

Yes, but it also means you are about as creative as a half-eaten turnip.

Djjacob1954 In reply to SergeantMuffins [2015-04-12 20:50:38 +0000 UTC]
Well, there's a fine line between "resemble" and "Copy/Rip off". So long as that line isn't crossed, taking inspiration from pop culture isn't necessarily bad.

SergeantMuffins In reply to Djjacob1954 [2015-04-12 21:05:43 +0000 UTC]
The irony being you did cross that line.

That was from a pro, stating that it's not wrong to base something off something that already exist.

And I suppose you're very confident in this, given that you asked me not to mention the Skullgirls characters again, right?
