When time allows. Very little lately. I taught a one day workshop this past August and it rekindled my interest in the medium.

That's good to hear. I just started working in the medium, and it's taken my heart by storm.
Do you just hand-draw your characters in with pigment sticks? Or do you paint by layers?

My apologies for the delayed response.
I employ several techniques when working in encaustic. One of my favorite techniques is laying paper on the electric griddle I use and coat the paper in beeswax. I then draw in the paper with Prismacolor pencils and sometimes a wax crayon (Crayola or other brand). Sometimes I draw on the paper before I set it on the griddle.
When working “hot to cold”, I do build up layers.
