Well for the group avatar, I got a background image from Sonic 3, so I made it to the right size in Gimp. Then I found a Sonic picture and resized it on a new layer. Then on another layer I did the border and glow for the text. On another layer I did the name. That's pretty much it.
My avatar I just made the background and edited a sprite for my character.
