"I'll distract them all," she said. "Use your Cloak." And before he could say a word, she had cried, "Oooh, look, a Blibbering Humdinger!" and pointed out the window.

That Heath Ledger drawing really caught my eye. It is so... bright. I am not satisfied with the images I have of some of my sketches. Sometimes they come out a bit too dark. Do you have trouble with shine off the graphite when scanning/taking pics?

I used to have a lot of trouble when photographing my work getting the white balance right.
The drawing would look very gray or dull and I would have to set up lights or take the shot near a window on a nice day because flash would almost invariably cause the shine off the graphite.
You can see the gray in my Kate Beckinsale [link] and Susan WIP[link]
I while back on the recommendations of a few very talented people on dA I started scanning.
I bought what I think is a descent photo scanner (Epson Perfection V600)
You still have to mess around with the scanner settings, sometimes the scan can look a bit flat and lifeless.
You may still have to mess with levels in an editing program until it looks like the original. (I repeat- "looks like the original" please don't go overboard with adjustments. Hold the drawing up to the screen and compare your results.)
On the point of graphite shine I tend to use a Staedtler Mars Lumogragh 7B or 8B for the really black blacks, there is a lot of binder in the lead its almost like a crayon. I sometimes use charcoal also on occasion.
Ok...sorry for the book lol. Really hope this helps!
(btw I'm always working on trying to get a great scan I know how you feel.)

Alright... Thanks for the advice. I have a drawing right now that I can't get a decent image of. It has been driving me crazy.
I thought I might ask the advice of a pro!
