Well, TaΓ€la definitely has enemies in some of the Vegas underworld β¦ I think that she may have sided with the wrong lover/boss at one time, and had to leave the country quickly when he was "terminated" by rivals. Hadn't thought of her of being on the run from the IRS, but that's likely and Β may come out later in the story line. In the completed but yet-to-be-published graphic novel teamup with Clia she runs afoul of an international female crime boss who is as smart and ruthless than TaΓ€la, and in the already-plotted next story in line will have researched out all of this very shady past to hold it over TaΓ€la. Β The crime chieftess is impassioned with the jungle queen and thoroughly enjoys dominating her. (I may just decide to keep Lady Klano β¦ really good villains should be kept online for future stories!)
In background to this story line BTW, Africa has been largely depopulated by a now-passed plague, and has been re-colonialized by European nations. (Which allows me to use the same background as in the early jungle girl comics, with British commissioners, Colonial police, etc.).)
And yes, when money or sex are involved, TaΓ€la can be quite charming. Otherwise she is a total bitch.

& here we have the straight & skinny of Taala & Clia's background's - TaalaΒ does seem rather cold - hearted, Clia just seems a tad naive & maybe somewhat lacking in subtlety.
A return to a colonial Africa due to a plague - Seems like that would allow for maybe Chinese Communists, Neo - Soviets ( like a certain current leader of Russia, 1st name Vlad ), & others to establish footholds, as well.

Very interesting suggestion, and I may just put some of those other interlopers into future story lines. There is another group though, and they will show up on page 47 in yet another plot twist.Β
