Basically I had to push the couch up to my door, stand on it, reach in through the flippy window above it, and turn the handle with the vacuum cleaner whilst pushing the door with my knee so that the lock would catch.

I'd love to try animation some day, but I'm juggling a decision between a college education in Biochemistry or Digital Animation. So far, art is just a hobby and Biochemistry's winning considering I promised my old Biology teacher that I would become a scientist one day. He was concerned that I was throwing away a great ability for strength in the science world, but maybe getting a little animated stuff out here and there wouldn't take up TOO much of my time.

Haha, aw thanks; you just seem to have that personality, and you must be pretty smart if you're thinking of getting into the sciences! 
But yes! You mustn't give up your creativity! Just because you draw and make art doesn't mean you're throwing away your scientific potential. XP Art and animation is so great in that you don't have to dedicate so much time to it, it can be whatever you want it to be; professional or recreational.
It'd be cool to see what you could come up with in your style~
