Xim, as powerful as he was, probably had women throwing themselves at him(or sent to him) all the time but the only one he finds interesting is the one woman who won't bow to him. Willing to work with him but not FOR him(at least publicly, secretly plotting his downfall but he enjoys matching wits with her)
In return he allows her a good deal

Antwerp is part of the Dutch-speaking half of Belgium, although the city itself is a veritable mix of languages at times. Β Depending on where you are, you can hear not just Dutch, French, English or German, but also Arab, Chinese, Hebrew, and a good number of other languages, too...

Sounds like what my hometown would've been like a hundred years ago - back when that last big wave of immigrants was coming to Wisconsin. Kind of a shame that there was so much pressure for everybody to speak English exclusively. I think we lost a lot of our heritage when that happened. Kind of funny that in modern times there's such an effort made to post signs in both Spanish and English... and occasionally Hmong, considering how many people fled from Laos to the Fox Valley.
Antwerp sounds like an interesting city to visit. I watched a travel documentary last year about Belgium and Luxembourg, and it really emphasized the local breweries around Antwerp.

my mom's side of the family is kind of a big deal in the WELS.Β My maternal grandfather, my mother and sister are(or was in my late grandfather's case) teachers. one of my uncles, is a pastor. one of my cousins teachesΒ at a WELS high school not far from you.

Funny thing, it turns out that half of my grandmother's family actually is from the WELS church. But the ones who are still alive live either around Milwaukee, or out-of-state.

I had no idea anybody actually read my little biography here! Guess that means I should give it a rewrite besides 'on vacation'. But I've rarely put any serious thought in attempting to describe myself.
ELCA, actually. Though generally I don't care to be more specific than 'Lutheran'. As long as somebody isn't using it as an excuse for causing trouble, I'm pretty much ambivalent about the subject of religion.
The Rovers' song "The Orange and The Green" could very easily have been written about my family - about one half Catholic, one half Protestant, and myself caught up in the middle.
