I'll admit I'm not usually a fan of self-made textures, as it generally makes map-making difficult afterwards, but in the case of Vega Uzara it gave an almost pristine appearance: I feel as if I could make out every island, every lake and desert. Where others would create a near homogenous landscape, you have discernible terrain and landmasses, a set of continents and archipelagos: it's not an Earth-like planet, it's Vega Uzara, and I wouldn't mistake it with any other world.

That being said, this didn't work out so well for the moons (this is also true for your later piece, Dima), and I think it would pay to increase their resolution so as to better give the illusion of a three dimensional object.

Thank you for your feedback ^-^ It's not every day that somebody appreciates anything I create that much. I'll be sure to revisit them in the future. I agree with you that the moons don't look as natural as they could. I'll monkey around with it and see what I can come up with.

I had meant to comment on it but was pre-occupied at the time; it's a step above your usual efforts, and while I could pin this in part to the much higher resolution, even once this is accounted for it has a much more beautiful and void-like background, and the gas giants in particular feel appropriately wondrous and vast, as if I could lose myself in them. Your arrangement is different from your other pieces, yet somehow this seems more attractive than your typically sequential orientation. In short, it is a piece I could explore, and that is why it earned my attention. If this is what your beginning forays in Photoshop are like, I would say you're doing well.

It is of some comfort to find a fellow novelist here on Deviant Art; would those novels in progress include the Requiem Trinity and War series I find in your folder, or are you referring to private works that will not be revealed until publishing?

I don't suppose I could ask as to what genre you're writing in, or if you would express an interest in my currently posted written works?

the private things are old works from when i was 15 i'm embarrassed to show.

mm... Req, Glade, and Dreams of Awakening are Fantasy, War X is Sci-Fi, Last Sym is Sci-Fi/Fantasy, and Chaos Theory, whatever genre Pokemon, Digimon, and Dragon Drive is in.

I first came across your work through reviewing one of my friends' favorites, and he'd included a link to one of your pictures in one of his written pieces. I've seen a number of 3D artists on this website, but few of them approach your level of detail or achieve the wondrous ambiance that is apparent in all your landscapes.

While randomly browsing I found an image for your Paladin Class Destroyer that led me to your gallery of DN starships, though that is the one that most caught my eye due to its Homeworld-like style. As you might guess, I'm a bit of a space buff, and was once into designing spacecraft as well, though I now look at them from a somewhat more technical than artistic vantage. That being said, you can see why I was endeared to it...

I come across your work frequently in the Creature Creator Club and I must say, I rather enjoy your art style, particularly your coloration scheme; I can barely make out the pencil markings, and it all seems to blend together.

I found your name in a friend's watch list and was quite impressed by your work. The level of detail in your pieces is incredible, and your gallery layouts suggest a greater understanding of the Deviant Art framework than any other artist I've seen thus far. It's enough to suggest more than just refined talent; do you work in the media business?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

overseer In reply to Zerraspace [2012-11-15 01:12:01 +0000 UTC]

Thank you very much. To answer your last question first; no, I don't work in the media business. I work in the IT sector as my main job. I've been doing graphical (and some web design) work since the early 1990s though and it's been a steady hobby ever since. I've worked on several commissioned works for people, but nothing long term as such. I guess I just have a high attention to detail and a passion for what I do. It's not that easy to get a foothold in the illustration business, especially if you don't have some kind of art degree.

There is, but I'm not sure as to how much I am allowed to disclose since I'm making them for a friend's website. He'll be publishing the first novel of a multi-part scifi saga called TEARS OF ORION in a couple of weeks.

I'm working on a world concept specifically for OPaaT, but I need to verify the science behind it before posting. Life is also conspiring against me in the form of the semester's first exams, so I might not be able to complete work on it for another two weeks. I hope you don't feel neglected.
