Thanks for the critique. I wouldn't edit my stuff though, I'm really not a fan of that.

That's a common mistake people make. Digital cameras compress the photographs in a standard way. Back then when people used analog cameras, they had to record the image as they pleased. E.g. the longer the paper was let in the chemicals, the more effect it would cause, for example, on color. Nowadays, photography softwares are the replacement, since the digital technology appeared. Though a lot of people use them wrongly, or in extreme ways - people go editing the photos after they are compressed by the camera. That's why SLR's are the best choice - because they have an option called "RAW", which creates an uncompressed file after you take a picture, instead of creating a .JPEG file. When importing to the computer, you can compress the photography as you please. I use Photoshop Lightroom, for example.
When I mentioned the colour contrast in my critique, I meant that if you had done a manual compress of the photo, you could have done a little more work with the toning In analog manners, this would mean let the paper be in the chemicals a little longer, or not at all.
Hope it helped!

Yeah, I understand. Thanks for bothering to type all of that out. I just feel that you can also get the techniques you require by taking the photographs better in the first place, so I don't want to get into the habit of relying on editing, just the same as I didn't like agonising over my film development.
I'm considering looking into fixed the over-exposure in the images, I just think that seeing all of the over-edited stuff for years has put me off.

You have a point, but notice that there's no magic potion that makes our photos look good. We have to know the techniques, otherwise we're going nowhere. Either way, everyone has their way of doing things Good speaking to you!

Hi there!
Things have been pretty crazy as of late. I have a paper due at the end of the month and I have to move to a new apartment before then too! Haven't had much time to pick up my camera lately.
How are things with you? Did you get your lens? I have a Sigma 70-200 f/2.8 and it works very well. A little slow but it serves my purposes. I like Sigma lenses for the most obvious reason...they are cheap! As well, since I am an amateur photog, I really don't see any reason buying expensive glass if I am not going to sell the shot. If there was a possibility of selling my shots, I would definitely consider buying better lenses.
Like Chase Jarvis (my new fav photog) [link] said,
"The best camera is the one you have with you."
And that applies to lenses too!

Yea, I'm just looking forward to buy something that goes from a low range to a high one, but I agree, what I've got is enough as long as I know how to use it.
Good luck with your work mate!
