# About me

The designation of "artist" hangs oddly on me. In some vague way, I've always had the idea that an artist was someone who not just created art, but who occupied some mystical, rarified world of high-end galleries and openings attended by the movers and shakers of a community. And so are some artists. However, as I began to take an interest in the tools available to a complete novice like myself, I realized that an artist did not have to inhabit such an exclusive realm. As I explored my own inspirations, I naturally encountered art created by those of like mind, and came to understand true artists as those who set themselves apart from the rest of the world by the very act of creating art. It is indisputably sublime to be given praise for a work, especially when that praise comes from artists one reveres. I have been fortunate enough to have a number of my works of fiction and photography published, and the thrill of that acceptance is very sweet, indeed. Yet, even sweeter, as any artist can attest, is that feeling of almost transcendental awe when the artist views their own work and thinks, "I can't believe that I did that!". That joy is what I seek in my art. Mostly, I fall short of the mark. Occasionally, and almost always by accident, I hit it dead-on. I have no technical skill, no training, and use heavily modified thrift-store cameras and sets for my photography. I won't be the next Man Ray. I won't take the photography world by storm. And, the thing is...I'm not trying to. I enjoy creating art for the sake of creating art. If other people enjoy it, that's all the better.
